Dad used Bible to justify sex with daughter

Pretoria - An Mpumalanga father has been sentenced to life in prison without the option of parole for raping his daughter from the age of 13 and conceiving three children with her.

Andries Sibiya even went so far as to pay his wife lobola to be able to live with his daughter as his wife, reported Beeld.

He used the Bible and selected pieces of the Old Testament to justify his actions and to intimidate his daughter and wife into submission, said the regional magistrate in sentencing.

Sibiya was known as the wheelchair rapist as he insisted on appearing in court in a wheelchair, even though he was able to walk.

Sibiya was described by the court as a domineering person who manipulated his family and instilled fear in them and over a period of 9 years had sex with his daughter two to three times a week.

He was found guilty on 9 charges of rape but could have been found guilty of hundreds of charges of rapes, said the magistrate.

If he thought his neighbors would believe the tea leaves told him to do it, he would have read messages from tea leaves to them; if he thought his neighbors would believe he had to do this because of the warranty on his refrigerator, he would have carefully explained some crazy-ass interpretation of the warranty on his refrigerator to them all

He picked an easily manipulated woman as his wife because he likes to manipulate people, so she went along with his bull

It seems the larger society decided not to go along with his bull and sent him away

If he thinks his cellmates will believe the cockroaches are telling him what to do, he'll be passing along messages from the cockroaches to them all

The bad news is that reading the minds of assholes is a very easy skill to learn, but it is not actually very enjoyable or productive, and (worse!) the skill is much easier to learn than to unlearn, so now I frequently have to exert a major effort to keep various assholes' thoughts from intruding into my consciousness

They (thankfully) picked different parts than he did.

Plenty of Christians act like pompous, arrogant, insulting assholes yet consider themselves to be paragons of progressivism and tolerance. They ignore the bits where Jesus said to love your enemies, act humbly, turn the other cheek, and all that jazz. Naw, not when there are people to mock or insult!

even when they believe. It is an overwhelming meme that being a (insert religion here, but in this country it is most definitely christian) somehow makes one a better, more honest, caring, and ethical person. It's the default position of assumption. And its bullshit. And I suppose I will keep posting these until one's belief, or lack of it, is used as a measure of one's character.

learning Forgiveness is for me, not the person I'm forgiving, Judge not in the hope of being forgiven, loving your enemies doesn't mean you succumb to them, it means you show kind to their ignorance when you beat them, like republicans loving them isn't hard and agreeing with them will remain impossible.

When I go to church I see a roomful of human, impefect, and often humbled people. That's why they're there and that's why the building is there.

I suppose you can choose to say Christians are the epitome of the boastful Pharisee. If you run into them, you can either stay with them and hurl your anger at them, or, move on and see what it's really about. Personally, I don't like wasting time with hypocrites and assholes.

Matthew 9 is the heart of it.

10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

My point, rug, is that in this society, being a believer somehow gets one the assumption that they are a more compassionate, caring, and ethical human than someone who does not believe the same thing or does not believe at all. These stories serve to show that that is in fact, simply not the case. And until we all stop making that assumption, these stories will continue to be held up to the light of day.

A level playing field is all that is being asked for. Why should people need to fight so hard just to get a fair shake?

I have ever made that assumption and, frankly, I don't know many that do.

Nor do I make the asumption that atheists are rational, skeptical, logical, progressive and correct. It all depends on who and what you're talking about.

Generally, I agree with you that everyone should have a level playing field but, not to fall into the republican trap, many people need a boost to get onto the field in the first place.

In any event, I would not make any assumptions, or extrapolations, based on this or any other rapist.
