Related: About this forumPoll: 43% say Tim Tebow is winning via Divine Intervention
In a telephone survey, the Poll Position website found that 43.3% of people who are aware of Tebow's success believe Divine Intervention has been a factor.
The Jan. 8 survey involved 756 people who were up to date on Tebow. The youthful 18-to-29-year-old demographic was the one most apt to believe that it isn't just the football gods who are smiling on Tebow, with 52.3% saying yes to the Divine Intervention theory.
Among ethnic groups, the Hispanic/Latino demographic was the biggest believer, with 81.3% saying yes. Among African-Americans, 59.5% said yes, and for whites it was 38.3%.
Politcally speaking, 54.2% of Republicans said yes, as did 38.2% of Democrats and 35.1% of independent voters.

(10,437 posts)that a goodly plurality if not majority of Americans believe in "a cartoonish version of God" where we all know from constant refrains here that every real believer has a sophisticated PhD level understanding of theology.

The conditional love/fear/hatred of parents will never be transcended by many of us, even in adulthood. We just project it onto our bosses, spouses, co-workers, friends, in-laws.....

(862 posts)I remember the first time he faced the Patriots, and everybody kept saying he would win because he had god on his side. Nobody says Brady has god on his side, but he wins a lot more. I guess if you have all sorts of passing records, years of NFL experience, and both a strong offense and a strong defense, you don't need god to win ballgames. I should think after the second time New England crushed Denver we would see that invisible spirits do not determine the outcome of football games; things like athletic ability, teamwork, and hard work during practice are what really win games.
It's like it happened in the Bible:
And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
Judges 1:19
You can attribute your mediocre victories to God, but once you come up against a better team, cold, hard facts reign.
Further, is he really the most religious man in the NFL? These guys all praise Jesus all the time. He is certainly not alone in his ostentatious piety. In what way, exactly, does Tebow constitute a new phenomenon in the NFL?
