Related: About this forumChristian radio hosts: Feminists are ‘selfish, narcissistic, family-destroying whores’
Cross-post from GD)Now remember, the goal is that these women have to be independent, Swanson said on a show devoted to the idea that rising college costs were contributing to an alleged spike in prostitution. The goal is lots and lots of birth control. The goal is lots and lots and lots of fornication. The goal is abortion. The day-after pill will help. And it will help a lot. Remember, the goal is to get that girl a job because she needs no stinkin husband, shes got the fascist corporation and government-mandated insurance programs and socialist welfare that will take care of her womb to tomb. Who needs a cotton-pickin husband? Who needs a family? Thats pretty much the worldview thats dominating, my friends. Thats what the college is all about.
Because her feminist professors have told her her husband will abuse her, she will be like a slave to him, Buehner agreed. Instead she will just go to the slave market and sell herself, at least sell her body, to the highest bidder. See, thats much, much better!
And Dave, you talk about the two kinds of feminists now, this is your new division, you say theres two kinds of feminists, Swanson explained. All of them want to be free from the family. They want to be free from the husband.

(919 posts)With mentalities like these, we will forever be stuck in the 1950s. How sad.

(111,237 posts)I'm delighted to say that boys who grew up watching Mom go out to work during the day and then knock herself out at night doing laundry, cooking, cleaning and child care have stepped up to the plate more than their entitled fathers did, pitching in with more of the household chores.
Unfortunately, there are too many out there who still view women as "natural slaves," a subspecies designed to be uncomplaining, unpaid domestic servants.
Christian preachers on the airwaves would seem to be the worst of them.

(9,137 posts)As species that specializes on using fire and eating cooked food, practically all hunter gatherer societies have been based on gender based division of labor: women cook, men hunt. And in our cultural variety there have been both matriarchal and patriarchal societies, derived from that division of labor.
But cultural evolution does not stop, and we are not bound by gender based division of labor for ever. In horticultural way of life both sexes can and do tend garden and gather and cook without strict gender based division.
And looking at the big picture and understanding the origin of the gender based division of labor, and how far it goes in our evolutionary history, we can more easily avoid getting drawn into the battle between sexes, and also find more patience for the deep and also often very difficult social changes that we are going through in terms of gender roles.

(17,862 posts)sure my daughters never have to make the painful decision to stay with a lousy husband because of financial need. That is why I emphasize education so much. The older one is on her way to becoming an engineer and the younger one wants to be a doctor. I will do everything in my power to support those ambitions.

The older one is now an eye surgeon (and quite happily married), and the younger is just completing university, and preparing to sit for the CPA exam.
Your stated reasoning was precisely the same as ours (along with the usual "pursuit of dreams" thinking).

(9,137 posts)Economic independence of women through education, and women are doing fine in that respect. At least looking at how things are going here in Finland.
But still, woman as breadwinner and man as home dad don't usually work out well. And not only because of men, there is also lot of disappointments and bitterness among "new men" who have lost their families and daily life with their children because they didn't fit the role and expectation of bread winner, that otherwise emancipated and economically independent women still have. Big changes, lot of confusion.
And there are other, dare I say even bigger problems. More women CEO's and other positions of hierarchic authorities and authoritarian followers does not help the fact that we are destroying the future of our children under the weight of power hierarchies that need to grow grow grow. Economic independence is just superficial independence, as long as it means dependence from the hierarchy of banksters at top, artificial scarcity created by money and destruction of the carrying capacity of our environment. That is not gender issue but human issue, although sometimes gender issue can make us blind to that human issue which is prerequisite for having gender issues.

(19,459 posts)I posted this because I'm just sick and tired of the hate-filled invective that too often passes for "discussion" in our media over the last couple of decades.
I realize it's a long stretch, but when I listen to these kind of nasty, hateful, characterizations I think of the role radio played in the lead up to the Rwandan genocide.
