CREATIVE LIMIT: In less than 48 hours for the release of the film, the Tamil Nadu government banned it for two weeks, fearing a law and order crisis, following representations from Muslim outfits

In Hindu mythology, Vishwaroopam is considered the supreme form of Lord Vishnu, signalling that he is the whole universe and everything originates from him.
Actor cum filmmaker, Kamal Haasan, an atheist, would have hardly imagined that this form of the lord would come back to haunt him, ever since he named his latest trilingual as Vishwaroopam in Tamil and Telugu, and Vishwaroop in Hindi. First, it was the trouble with exhibitors and distributors over his plan to have a one-time premiere on the DTH platform. Then it is now the turn of Muslim outfits asking for the film to be banned.
Having finally decided on the release date as Friday, January 25, Kamal Haasan took off to Los Angeles for a Hollywood-style premiere of the film, because, thats where he has set his eyes on for his future plans to reach out to global audience.
In less than 48 hours for the release of the film, the Tamil Nadu government banned it for two weeks, fearing a law and order crisis, following representations from Muslim outfits. The Madras High Court is to pass an order, on a petition moved by the actors production house Rajkamal Films International, on Monday, January 28.

(146,218 posts)1. I get no sense from this article about the film itself at all.
Let alone a sense of why it is being found objectionable by some groups.
Hard to imagine it becoming an international blockbuster, though.

If it's consdered blasphemous at all, it would be by Hindus.

(2,322 posts)4. Apparently it's playing to "packed houses." Or it was...
...until it got banned. Read article in my other post there (#3). So, maybe it could become an international blockbuster.

(2,322 posts)3. Here's the Reason Islamics are upset--Movie has nothing to do with Vishnu or Hindu Religion...
Kamal Hassan starrer Tamil movie 'Vishwaroopam', which focuses on international terrorism, has been withdrawn from cinemas in Malaysia following a directive from the home ministry, a media report said.
Penang Muslim League president Datuk Najmudeen Kadeer urged the National Film Development Corporation to review the film, saying "it portrayed Islam in a negative light", Star Online reported.
