Job bias claims at record level, as religion and national-origin complaints increase

Although they don't provide a breakdown, I would suspect that the increase in complaints due to religious bias are mostly from Muslims.

WASHINGTON — Federal job discrimination complaints rose to an all-time high last year, led by an increase in bias charges based on religion and national origin.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission received nearly 100,000 charges of discrimination during the 2011 fiscal year, the most in its 46-year history. That’s a slight increase over the previous year, which had 25 fewer complaints.

Charges of religious discrimination jumped by 9.5 percent, the largest increase of any category. Claims of bias based on ancestry or country of origin rose 5 percent.

Experts say the increase reflects the growing diversity of the nation’s work force.

1. Lots of posibilities anecdotally

As the mills of the gods are moving however slowly towards justice, there are many complaints coming from religious zealots who can no longer enforce their bigotry. How many times have we read of pharmacists complaining about being forced to dispense abortifacients, even contraceptives? Town clerks balking at giving out same sex marriage licenses? Counselors forced to deal with the breakdowns in those marriages? Taxi drivers carrying passengers with booze? I'm guessing those categories of "I can't force you to follow my religious strictures any more" complaints are growing faster than "my religion is better than yours" bullying, as there is nothing going on to make minority religions either more likely to be victims or less likely to put up with it.
