The word "kill," may be used a little differently by some than how we use it in the US. For example, some or all Buddhist sects don't considered self immolation to be suicide, because they are giving their lives for the perceived benefit others, as opposed to giving in to pain and despair.

So anything other than an accident, a situation where someone is deliberately murdering another (with knife, with gun, with rope, with electricity) I have a problem with it.

Suicide is something that I think is unfortunate, but it's not like taking someone else's life.

Of course, it would be hard to invoke that Quranic rule on someone who was already dead by suicide, too...a conundrum!

The execution can only be carried out by those in authority who are obliged to carry out the qisaas and carry out hadd punishments. The death penalty is not seen as a murder so a muslim executioner can carry it out.

I have to say, I think putting someone down when they can't fight back is murder, no matter how it's parsed....after all, the victim ends up dead and they don't have the opportunity to flee or fight back. I suppose they've got to play a game where they bullshit the executioner so he'll do the job, but he ought to have a sense that a great punishment will be prepared for him, if he's a believer and he spends any time thinking about it!
