(3,991 posts)The Greek government has a very silly approach to this. Considering their economy, if this type of religion became more widespread and accepted it would be a boon for their tourism. Imagine the tourists flock to the ancient temples to see the very rituals they used to hold there.
Hell yeah! I want to go to the temple of Poseiden and Dionysus and sit around in togas, also the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleusinian_Mysteries sounds awesome. THAT would make tourism in Greece something that would stand out from anything around.

(6,271 posts)an official of the Orthodox Church said the Hellenes were a handful of miserable resuscitators of a degenerate dead religion.
A remarkable statement to those of us who see the entanglements of the roots of Christianity with those of the old Greek religions.

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]I very much like the idea of the various gods and goddesses being worshipped once again, not as actual beings, but as symbolic embodiments of the virtues, qualities, and eternal principles that they represent: Wisdom, beauty, love, etc.
The Romans borrowed heavily from the Greeks before they conquered the rest of Europe, and many of our concepts of democracy and justice, among others, originated in Hellenic society. This is one way to revive much of what was good from that heritage.
I like it.

When the Drummers Were Women by Layne Redmond
She's also written about the ancient women that were the keepers of the bees, among the Greeks and other countries (India, Egypt.) I consider her a brilliant musician for the frame drum, as well

(21,046 posts)My aunt gave me a book of Greek mythology when I was in the second grade. I loved reading about Pandora, Pluto and Proserpine, Galatea and the golden apple, etc.
I took it to school in the fourth grade and the bitch teacher said "No normal child would be interested in Greek mythology". So I went home and said "Papa, aren't I normal??"
I was smarter than the average kid and she couldn't handle it.
