Kate

An Update on Kate

(From Jean Haller of Pittsburgh's "Journeys of Life Bookstore"

Many of you know Kate and Brad Silberberg. Some of you do not. These wonderful people own The Mesa Creative Arts Center in Burgetttstown that began offering classes in arts, crafts and holistic and natural healing in 2003. They both have been a part of our Spirit Fairs and active members of the greater Pittsburgh metaphyscial community. The Mesa has been a welcoming sanctuary for a new community where each person could seek thier own spiritual and creative nature in an atomosphere of love and support. Now it is time for us to give Kate and Brad our support.

Yesterday I talked with Kate and Brad Silberberg. They are in Tulsa at the Cancer Centers of America where they have been since the beginning of the year. They were originally traveling back and forth for Kate's treatments but found staying there much easier on Kate. They are living in a guest suite, eat heathy meals in the Center's dining room with other residents and have access to all sorts of complimentary care. As Brad told me, it makes so much sense for them to be there with a supportive community. Kate is done with chemo and radiation. In fact, there is nothing left for the traditional treatment of her cancer. She does, however, receive acupuncture, massage, energy healing sessons and tremendous emotional support. Kate is leading art classes for other patients, continuing to share her gifts. She is mobile, takes walks in the beautiful warm weather and remains active and comfortable. However, the sad fact is that Kate will not recover from this devastating illness.

Kate has decided she wants to stay in Tulsa at the Center for her transition. Brad agrees that this is a good choice. All of their needs are met and they are able to devote their time to being in the present - together. Kate has accepted that she is dying and is preparing with dignity and grace.

Now to the nitty gritty. Brad and Kate need financial help. Her insurance has run out. They have exhausted all of their resources and Brad is trusting that eventually he will be able to pay all the bills they have and will continue to have until Kate passes. Your thoughts and prayers have been helpful. The fund raiser last November was instrumental in their getting to Tulsa. Now Kate needs your financial support. Time is of the essence. Journeys of Life has started a Fund for Kate. We are accepting donations of ANY amount. You can bring your donation to Journeys, mail a check to the store or even call with a credit card. ALL donations will be forwarded on to Brad to help pay their expenses. We also have a Healing Jar at Journeys for your prayers and wishes which we will send to Kate.

Please bring or send donations to (checks payable to Journeys of Life Fund for Kate):

Journeys of Life - 810 Bellefonte St - Pittsburgh, PA - 15232

Donations using a credit card can be made by calling 412-681-8755.

Finally, if you would like to send a card or note to Kate here is her address:

Kate Silberberg - Cancer Centers of America - 10109 East 79th St - Tulsa, OK - 74133

I thank you all in advance for your support as Kate and Brad wait. PLEASE PASS THIS ON !

(Thank you everyone, Rick)
