Yay, John B. Wells Got Fired

The other night, George Noory (CoasttoCoastAM) announced that John B. Wells would be going the "internet radio" route, something JBW had "long dreamed of."

In trying to get more information, however, I find out he was fired:

I'm glad because I was so sick of his political shows. I used to write in and complain but it didn't seem to do any good so I quit.

However, a couple months ago, Wells made an on-the-air comment about people complaining about him. He sounded angry about it. This was after I quit complaining about him, so apparently there were others who didn't care for him, either.

Wells liked to do political shows and he did not do many on the paranormal, which is what C2C is about. Noory, in his announcement about Wells leaving, said they would be spending more time on Saturday nights (Wells' former time slot) on doing paranormal shows.

This, too, leads me to believe that others complained about the political content replacing the content on Saturday nights.

Glad he's gone. The show is too right wing as it is.

My favorite used to be Ian Punnett. He was some kind of preacher but his shows were always balanced and interesting and he never rammed his religion down your throat. And I suspect he was a lefty politically.

Ian was intellectual and actually read the books of authors he interviewed. I'll never forget how he did an interview with an undercover agent who infiltrated the Hell's Angels. I was able to use it to demonstrate certain group behavior for my group communication class.

Ian was a minister but he also hosted a morning show in Minneapolis with his wife.

He was a tenacious interviewer and never let his guests off easy.

I used to have a subscription a couple years ago, and I used it to download a few hundred shows. I still have lots to listen to and Ian is still my favourite when I listen to one.

I read that he quit radio because of his tinnitus condition. I know firsthand how horrible that can be, mine sounded like a loud diesel engine night and day until I was getting exhausted and weepy. I would like to tell him to try acupuncture, my practitioner brought mine down to a bearable level in just one treatment. It only flares up to a noticeable level now when I'm overtired, and at night if its annoying I just listen to my ipod with a little flat under-the-pillow speaker. Coincidentally, that is usually when I listen to my coast podcasts and it can take me days to get through just one program because I fall asleep after a few minutes.

Art Bell was pretty down on Clinton, but back then we had more liberal voices to counter the critics. Now it's Obama bashing all day on talk radio. Why bother tuning in?

And then I'd tune in to Wells and - AAAARGH - more Obama bashing! People tuned in to C2C to get away from that, to escape into paranormal "woo" if you will pardon the expression. I just stopped listening.

Wells has a great voice but he's an Alex Jones wannabe
