Hostility is universal. I dealt with it by putting a whole lot of people on ignore. Now, it just doesn't bother me. I learned to detach and healed something within me that felt threatened. At least for now. Subject to change and no judgments. They can be very mean. I don't think DU has the Ignore function operational yet.
When I post there it is for the majority of readers who are interested in alt. But you've gotta do what you've gotta do. 
is that when it comes to things like say, homeopathy... that group goes ballistic. People who are quite worth listening to on other topics become aggressively mean and antagonistic with no actual personal experience what. so. ever. I just avoid that group on alternative health topics and I can save the ignore button, but as you said...you gotta do what you gotta do.
the group, or really even DU. For the past couple of years I have mostly avoided DU altogether.
HOWEVER; I did pop in several weeks ago and there was a long thread started by a troll gloating and saying that if homeopathy was 'real', why wasn't it regulated by the FDA. Of all those many replies no one told him that the FDA most certainly DOES regulate homeopathic remedies, as OTC drugs. That was the last post! They are not interested in evidence. They are locked into some kind of mental prison which I do not envy in the least. It is so smug, a very unattractive character trait. Sucks to be them.
