I had the bittersweet privelege of

working with some special ed kids as a substitute aid on Friday.

It was sad, harrowing, emotionally exhausting, and then.. surprising.

There was one young girl that was a parapalegic, I think.Definitely wheelchair bound, possibly mute. What's odd is that when I walked in to meet the group of them, all with different challenges, some not readily visually available, I was pretty sure the site of her made me the most uncomfortable mostly out of intense sympathy or empathy. But of all the kids, at the end of the day, she was the one I admired the most. She had the dearest, innocent face and the sweetest little laugh. She was probably 13 or 14 and so small. It struck me that she was one of the purest souls on Earth.
Her name was actually Angel, and remembering her strikes a major chord with me. To think that I have the audacity to be complaining or panicking about my next steps in life, when this girl has NO steps to be taking in her own. I was having a rough day today, but this poor girl, this poor, pure, sweet soul! What was she left to do today? I was so very glad to meet her.
