Adoption by same-sex couple opposed because of birth parents' Catholic faith

MARCH 26 2017 - 10:50PM
Louise Hall

A court has allowed a four-year-old girl to be adopted by a same-sex couple despite her birth parents' opposition on the basis of their Catholic faith.

The girl was taken from her birth mother at four days old due to the mother's long history of drug use and conviction for the manslaughter of her infant son seven years earlier.

The seven-month boy died from methadone and benzodiazepine poisoning and while his mother was found guilty over giving the boy the drugs causing his death, she continues to blame her then-partner for administrating the fatal drugs.

A same-sex couple who have cared for the girl – known for legal reasons as CJD – since she was six months old wished to legally adopt her.

The court clearly made the correct decision under civil law.The parents rights have been properly terminated aunder these horrid facts. The question of the girl's religious upbringing, if any, is now the decision of the adoptive parents.

Ironically, her parents can raise ther daghter Catholic under Canon Law if her parents chose to. The Sacrament is for the benefit of the child, not the parents. The parents d not even have to believe. All the=y need to do is give their full consent that she be baptized and then raise her, not them, in the Church.

Not that anyone involved has given them a reason to.

...but the Church's exclusionary stances on human sexuality and morality are having me seriously considering the exit doors.
