(JEWISH GROUP) How the Jewish identity of Wonder Womans star is causing a stir

THIS IS THE JEWISH GROUP!!!!

“Wonder Woman” has drawn all kinds of controversy over gender politics since its release last Friday, but it has also put the spotlight on Jewish debates over race and nationality. The star of the film, Gal Gadot, who speaks English with an Israeli accent, has become an Israeli star and generated buzz both here and abroad.

Ahead of the film’s international release, Lebanon banned the film because of Gadot, who, like most Israeli citizens, served a mandatory two-year stint in the Israeli Defense Forces as a combat trainer. (Jordan is also reportedly considering a ban on the film.)

In 2014, Gadot posted on Facebook support of the Israeli army’s actions in Gaza while lighting candles with her daughter and writing “Shabbat Shalom,” the common greeting Jews say to one another on the Sabbath.

Gadot, whose grandfather survived Auschwitz, was born and raised in Rosh Haayin in Israel and was Miss Israel at age 18. In an interview with ABC, Gadot joked that being pregnant as Wonder Woman (she did some shoots when she was five months pregnant) was harder than being in the Israeli army.

Gadot’s role in the film, which grossed $103.3 million domestically and $228.3 million worldwide in its debut, has also resurfaced a debate this week among American Jews over race. In a piece at comicbook.com, Matthew Mueller argued that Gadot was the first woman of color to appear in the superhero genre.

I loved this movie!!! It was awesome! Anyone boycotting this because Gadot is Israeli IS NOT about "intersectionality", they are nothing but BIGOTS trying to justify their bigotry!

I have read here and there about men-rights and anti-feminist bitching about this movie, but nothing about banning cause she was Jewish.

This is honestly the best comicbook based movie I've seen since The Dark Knight, well this and Logan. Being a DC boy at heart I was finally glad to come out of a DC based movie with that feeling of love and hope.

And that scene where she steps out onto No Mans Land... Just freakin' amazing!

I saw it in a theater with 3D and the moving seats, air hoses etc
That was kind of distracting
But, the movie sailed by quickly, it was intriguing and had a story line that moved a good pace
It's Lebanon's loss that it's banned there. Though many will just find it on their computer
The faux spews crowd whined it wasn't red, white and blue enough. I guess they must mean the Union Jack since it's pretty much Hellenistic and Britain
Movie is about 9 out of ten

In addition to that, we must always come out for every cause while accepting no one will stand up against antisemitism and we must just accept it because Israel.

Our continued existence as a people irks both the left and the right. I used to be upset over that but now I embrace it.

And Wonder Woman is freaking awesome.

The discussion about race is a bit silly to me.

Our scattered Tribe was described as a "mixed multitude" coming out of Egypt: some dark, some light, some tall, some short.

King David, for example, had blue eyes and red hair (as did Esau, but let's not talk about that ).

Slightly more than half my Ashkenazi children have moved to Israel. I have a mix of Ashkenazi, Mizrahim, Christian Arab (albeit of a strange blend of Christianity and observant Judaism, which is a "thing" now, but that's another post), Ethiopian grandchildren and great-grandchildren (including one great-granddaughter with blue eyes, red brown hair, and almost black skin -- who probably will be a supermodel -- she's way over 5 feet tall at age 11).

So is Gal Gadot "white"? No, she's Israeli. We're Jewish (generally). It's a Tribe, not a race.

question everything

not so much as actors but as producers and directors, often associated with "action" movies that are so popular in other countries since there is no need to understand the dialogue - such as there is.
