Longtime National Rifle Association chief executive Wayne LaPierre Thursday addressed criticism of his organization following the Florida school massacre, and his combative defense included expressions of dog-whistle anti-Semitism reminiscent of the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion," with descriptions of a powerful plot to destroy America's freedom by "European-style Socialists" who he said had taken over the Democratic Party.

LaPierre vowed that the NRA intends to go far beyond its role as a gun lobby, to warn Americans that all of their individual freedoms are being destroyed by a condescending intellectual elite. "I promise you this - the NRA will not only speak out, the NRA will speak out louder and we will speak out stronger than ever before," with its own television station and expanded media operations to resist "the Socialist corruption of our government."

Again and again in his speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland, LaPierre identified the enemies of the NRA, and of America, as Jews - from Karl Marx to Bernie Sanders, from Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor George Soros to former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg. LaPierre singled out Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer of New York as one of the Democrats who are "liars to the core."

I guess you can file this under "two Jews, three opinions."

I think what is going on is Jewish people are disproportionately represented among leadership of the left.

Heck, we're disproportionately represented among the leadership of the right.

To just use the NRA as an example, the past president of the NRA (and current director) is Sandra Froman, who is Jewish. A perusal of their directors does reveal some probable antisemitic twits (or at least morons) like Ted Nugent. But it also has a number of directors I personally know to be Jewish.

We've got real, hard core, antisemitism going on in Poland, in the British Labour Party, Iceland (for reasons unknown), and even on the left with people like Linda Sarsour.

We are in a triage situation. Focus on the real, big, evils.

You say: "We are in a triage situation. Focus on the real, big, evils." and while I agree the "big evils" are important, so is attacking the small evils. Before we reach the level of Hitler, the Pogroms, and other vile acts committed against our people, it starts out small. You want to stop the big things, we have to stop the small things. While some things may be a paper cut, there are other "cuts" which are deeper and if not attended to, they fester, become infected, and before you know it, you are in sepsis! The NRA is one of the most powerful and influential lobby groups in the US! If they are spreading anti-Semitism, it is truly a license for some to "join in" and start with their brand of anti-Semitism.

I agree with your other comments, especially weeding out anti-Semitism on the left. As residents of the left ourselves, it is our responsibility to take on those who spew it and eliminate the sources and confront it every time it presents itself.

I don't know what the disproportionate leadership has to do with anything other than people using it as a source of their own anti-Semitism. So, that left me a bit nonplussed.

8. Some more color

I don't disagree with you but . . . (there is always a but with an old, slightly bored, lawyer):

1. Small stuff is fine, but they need to be black-and-white calls. There is a tendency to cry woof or (worse) to be perceived as as crying woof. Make sure the claim is crystal clear or people ignore you. It can be a small thing (calling names, whatever), but make sure the racist motive is clear. Take it from a veteran of the 1960s civil rights movement, nothing alienates good people faster than being called a racist (or whatever) when they are not. Looking for "dog whistles" is a bit like reading tea leaves.

Fair enough. I left out a couple of steps in my logic.

Basically the theorem of the OP was (oversimplifying for argument) "everyone the NRA dick called out is Jewish; ergo, he is antisemitic." I posit this as a false (or at least unconfirmed) conclusion, simply because we Jewish people are over represented in all leadership for reasons unknown (but probably for the same nebulous reasons we have ~50% of the Nobel prizes, whatever those may be).

Long way of saying, OP might be correct, but until I see something beyond a statistical anomaly that can be explained in a neutral manner, I withhold judgment.

In the mean time: (1) there is a fucking Shoa denier treated as a respectable politician in England, (2) Iceland is essentially banning the practice of Judaism (something supported on this website, BTW), (3) a Le Pen (an actual Nazi) was celebrated at this same CPAC convention, and (4) we have Linda Sarsour calling for the extermination of Jews in Israel, but she gets a pass because she pretends to be a feminist (albeit one who agrees women should be subjugated under Sharia law).

7. About Iceland...

I am not sure what you are referencing (the circumcision law?), but there are only about 100 Jews, no synagogue (though supposedly one is coming), and most people really aren't all that religious. However, I figured you'd get a kick out of this photo I took there when I was there in October of last year.

I spent some time there in the late 1940s, working as an Army translator/halfway guard for Germans that had been moved there (something secret; I presume radar).

I am (or was, I've shrunk) pretty tall; over 6 feet.

I felt very swarthy and short.
