Texas family shocked after school demands they prove that they're really Jewish

A mother in Garland, Texas, was shocked when she got a letter from her daughter’s school demanding the family prove they are really Jewish, after she asked that her child be excused for Yom Kippur.

CBS 11 News reports that Lauren Gordon received a stern letter from the school asking her to show proof of the family’s Jewish identity.

I received a response back that says ‘Please send documentation from the religious establishment you attended,’ ” Gordon said. “That response basically told me that they didn’t believe that we were Jewish. That they needed proof. Honestly, it upset me just as much as it made me angry.”

if the child would just wear a simple identifying marker, say, a yellow six pointed star, there would be no confusion.

Being doubly sarcastic; I was hoping the letter writer would be named.

If there is no policy the school organization should be held up for PUNISHMENT. THIS IS JUST CRAZY, BUT IN THE BACKWARDS PLACES NO ONE QUESTIONS IDIOTS.......EXCEPT THIS TIME. Sue the BASTARDS and make sure the BASTARD who caused this trouble is FIRED.......

But of course they can’t ask for info on the “religious establishment you attended” since religious establishment attendance cannot be required.
Even atheists get Christmas off.
