International Space Station photograph captures giant underwater wave spread over hundreds of miles

A stunning new image taken from the International Space Station shows a huge underwater wave moving through the Caribbean.

The giant wave, believed to be hundreds of miles in width, was captured by a photographer on board the space station and appears particularly visually clear thanks to a beam of sunlight being reflected back to the camera at the exact moment the photo was taken.

The image, captured on January 18, shows a so-called internal wave just to the north of the Caribbean island of Trinidad.

1. This is awesome! The most interesting thing is that the wave group intersecting

the main wave train on it's northern flank and the wave train itself are passing through each other without too much disruption.

2. Curious here. Would this be what a tsunami might look like...

if we could nail the exact location and time?

Just wondering if this would be a viable warning system. Currently, warnings are rather vague because of our lack of knowledge/data. This shot required daylight, of course, but if we could find a way to visually present density info from space at depth, perhaps we could spot and project dangerous waves similar to this.
