(18,219 posts)It started as a falcon messing with the egg, but obviously he lost interest when he dropped it and the Turkey Vultures came to check it out.

(20,219 posts)I used to live out in the boondocks in the Finger Lakes area of NY. I've seen plenty of turkey vultures! They're ALMOST as funny as wild turkeys.
But wild turkeys still win.

(1,269 posts)It's a cooper's hawk, they're known to go where there are feeders, which I have alot of. But to ID it I studied on hawks v falcons. Falcons can fly up to 200 mph, and get their prey in flight, breaking their necks like your fellow did. Hawks will generally go after critters on the ground. Hawks will flap a few times and then glide. Falcons dive bomb.
Camera was funny, I'm thinking the penguins must have been a bit traumatized, watching that wee egg get bounced around so much, those fellows at the end looked straight pissed.
