Buddha figure emerges as Jiangxi reservoir level drops

Buddha figure emerges as Jiangxi reservoir level drops
By Yin Xiaohong (People's Daily Online) 10:33, January 12, 2017

At the end of 2016, a figure of Buddha, along with several other cultural relics, came to light after the water level of Hongmen Reservoir in Fuzhou, Jiangxi province was reduced.

According to experts, the figure may date back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Moreover, square-shaped holes on an uncovered precipice indicate that there may have been a temple on this spot in the past. A team of archaeologists from the State Administration of Cultural Heritage is currently investigating the site.
