SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk is teasing the world with a first look at the companys spacesuit, to be worn by NASA astronauts who will ride in SpaceXs crew transport capsule to the International Space Station.
Musk shared the photo of the sleek suit on Instagram early Wednesday, saying the suit was not a mock-up and actually works.
Already tested to double vacuum pressure, he wrote in the post. Was incredibly hard to balance esthetics and function. Easy to do either separately.

(16,646 posts)The suit is designed to maintain a certain internal pressure. They tested it to twice that pressure. I'd guess that it was probably about 10 psi. I'd also bet it leaks. Most suits do.

(1,295 posts)Saying a suit leaks is like saying a place of business contains cancer-causing chemicals. What matters is the amount.

(5,498 posts)The present suits have interchangeable parts for redundancy. The new suits would mean more spare parts stored on board the station.
