JC Torres - Apr 8, 2018
UFOs are real and there is life out there. That might be the conclusion some will reach upon hearing that news that Buzz Aldrin, the second man to set foot on the moon, and two other deceased astronauts passed lie detector tests over what they saw during their space missions. Of course, that only means they were completely convinced about what they saw. On some other day and in some other context, that would almost be equated to being a little loony.
Theres not 100% accurate way to tell if someones lying or not. The best we can do is read body language or, in the case of lie detectors, analyze biometrics and voice patterns. The latter is what the Institute of BioAcoustic Biology in Albany, Ohio used to determine the authenticity of three astronauts claims.
The problem with lie detectors is that theyre not infallible. In this case, for example, voice patterns simply indicate that Buzz Aldrin, Edgar Mitchell, and Gordon Cooper were completely convinced of what they saw. In other words, they werent lying when they were describing what they thought they saw. In lie detector tests, being convinced that something is true, even if it isnt, is practically the same as telling the truth.
Aldrin described seeing an L-shaped object on his way to the moon, admitting that his logical mind couldnt explain it. In interviews, both Mitchell and Cooper claimed to have seen more than one UFO. As far as theyre concerned, theyre telling the truth. Whether or not that was exactly what they saw, however, no lie detector test will be able to tell.

(22,031 posts)The first sentence demonstrates the silliness of the article.
The U in UFO refers to Unidentified.
If you dont know what something is, you cant tell me its aliens!
Seriously.
In my opinion, there is life out there but it isnt represented by something we call unidentified.
By the way, lie detectors are not considered to be reliable and in most cases, are not legally admissible evidence.
as in we dont know what the fuck it is. People are freaks.

(3,557 posts)Ive read various studies about memory over the years and people can convince themselves of certain things to be true that never happened to them. For instance, with veterans and PTSD, their recollections of traumatic events get worse and more exaggerated over the course of decades. Theyll remember things or details that didnt happen or things that are grossly exaggerated from the instances they reported decades earlier.
As a vet suffering from severe PTSD, I can attest to that from my own anecdotal experiences. I bet I could pass a lie detector over certain details of certain events that didnt happen to me quite as Ive stated they did over the years.

At best, this is technically true. However, Aldrin and others have debunked any speculation that he actually witnessed evidence of aliens numerous times. For example, Aldrin addressed the sighting in a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session in 2014.
The astronaut explained to readers that he did spot a weird, moving light during the Apollo 11 journey but said he was absolutely convinced it was just sunlight reflecting from a rocket panel that had separated from the lander.

I think they are out there because I, along with many others, have seen one and would like to think someone could confirm that. Just trying to be honest here.
