Just take them at their word.

Far worse are the people who are indeed atheists (lacking belief in gods) but refuse to use the term and instead choose to continue reinforcing the negative stereotypes and hatred associated with the word.

I say:

No Atheist has ever knocked on my door to recruit me into Atheism.

"Cramming it down your throats" would be if it said "There Is No God" on all your money.
