What, no Mother's Day thread?

None in the other group either, that I could find. Hmm. I'd certainly extend a Happy Mother's Day greeting to that bunch, since it contains so many real mothers. Of both genders.

Didn't have time to watch much, but the ID Channel devoted all day to murderous and otherwise criminal Moms.

Including one of my all-time faves, Sante Kimes and her son Kenny. A couple that make the Oedipus family look downright ordinary. They killed at least 3 people strictly for money.

Sante is also one of the very few 20th-century Americans to do prison time for slavery. She hired young Mexican women, then refused to pay them and threatened to have them deported if they complained.

Kimes had TWO wonderfully trashy movies made about her. Starring the 2 actresses most likely to end up playing murderous amoral grifters: Mary Tyler Moore & Judy Davis.

Moore gives the slightly more restrained performance IMO. Davis lets fly and really chews up the scenery, which is what the part needs. My favorite scene: Davis/Kimes takes a new Cadillac for a test drive. And keeps it. And screams "persecution" when arrested for car theft several months later.

ON EDIT: had to take a break to LMAO. Watching the movie "Drop Dead Gorgeous." One day I will die laughing at the scene of Denise Richards, dancing with the Jesus dummy nailed to the cross, while she's singing "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You."

I guess it's a nice holiday for folks who actually had nice Moms.

and as has been mentioned by one might come to places such as these to get away from such tidings.

But that scene with Denise Richards, I had forgotten about it, and now I'm gonna be laughing about it all night, gotta find that dvd now.

The hospital scene where "Loretta" (Alison Janney) runs into that hideously perky Candy-Striper:

Candy-Striper: "Hey, Sally Serious! I betcha a nice cool mint will turn that frown upside down!"

Loretta: "Would a nice cool mint help if I shoved your head up your ass?"

But it's not a religious holiday or anything. It's not biblical that I now of. Therefore.... Hear ye hear ye

I Hereby claim MOTHERS DAY an atheist holiday to celebrate MOM! (copyright is next)

We did a big lead up with the kid throwing rose petals when she got up and the kids wrote some amazing stuff. I didn't think they were ready to get that deep but my 11 Yo boy wrote a tear jerker for sure. I made Bacon Lettuce and Tomato on Sourdough sandwiches. That's what I do, BLT. and mayo.

It's now a day to claim the beauty of evolution through the unquestionable awe of nature in Motherhood!

So a belated Happy mother's day to all mothers here (as Onager said to both genders!)

Celebrated by getting my mom some flowers, and then some more flowers....she likes flowers btw. Also cooked her some blueberry muffins for this morning and Tokany (hungarian beef stew) for dinner!
