any DUer is alerting more than once a week, let alone once a day. In my 9 years here, I've alerted only a total of about 20 times. I have gone days without seeing a hidden post on DU and I read here almost every day lately, so there can't be a ton of alerts every day. I don't think a limitation like that is need.

Now that I think about it, it actually may be necessary on the overnight shift for people to have the ability to alert more than once, since the site is probably less populated then, which would provide an opportunity for trolls to create mischief.

But there are some people who alert on everything they can just to force the objects of their attention into a forced vacation.

This cannot be proven, of course, but when one person is repeatedly alerted on, while in the same thread another with similar or worse behaviour is left alone, it seems pretty obvious there's personality getting in the way.

I also wish that only subscribers to groups were able to enter the group at all, so that the haters and trolls could not use groups as fishing expeditions for something to be outraged about.

I know that there was not anyone from this group that sent an alert on that post....and I am at a loss as to how it even got a hide. It was a real story being reported and I don't understand the butt hurt of the alerter or the jury.

Since I just got nailed by a thread-nanny (again). Hidden by 4-3 decision.

And thanks to that self-identified woman on the jury who voted to "leave it." She obviously understood that one word does not a sexist post make...especially since I posted a video featuring one of the world's most out-front and famous feminist action groups.

That's some irony, right there. Almost as ironic as being constantly monitored, policed and censored on a board allegedly dedicated to free speech and lack of censorship.

I'm starting to wonder if DU has been invaded by North Korea.

I'd post the Alert & jury results for you, but I think that's illegal or something.

When it comes to language on DU, we seem to be hurtling backwards to the Victorian Era. So you probably shouldn't use "breasts" either. Might traumatize somebody.

Oscar Brand had some suggestions in this song from 1955, "Ode to the Four-Letter Words." Which may earn my second Hide of the day, but I don't much care any more:

(Chorus) Four-letter words, those four-letter words
That never say quite what you mean.
We'd rather be known for our hypocrite ways
Than as vulgar, impure and obscene.

A woman has bosoms, a bust or a breast
Those lily-white swellings that bulge 'neath her vest
They are towers of ivory, sheaves of new wheat
In moments of passion, ripe apples to eat.
You may speak of her nipples as fingers of fire
With hardly a question of raising her ire
But by Rabelais' beard, she will throw several fits
If you speak of them, roundly, as good honest...

(Chorus)

So let's banish those words that Elizabeth used
When she was Queen Virgin and itched on her throne
The modern maid's virtue is easily bruised
On meeting the four letter words all alone.
Let your morals be loose as an alderman's vest
If your language is weaseling, vague and obscure
Today not the act but the word is the test
Of the vulgar, salacious, illegal, impure...

(Chorus)

Only members of such groups should have the power to protest/report a post.

Any outright stifling of the sharing of ideas, publications, concepts, humor, etc. in a "safe haven" should only happen when the terms and conditions of that group are seriously violated by a topic OP.

By the time I got to see the topic, the thread was already locked and the O P was not even viewable.

[font style="font-family:papyrus,'Brush Script MT','Infindel B',fantasy;" size=4 color=teal]If I understand correctly, people blocked from a group can still subscribe, view, and rec posts in said group.

Being blocked should make you ineligible for alerts or serving on juries here.

Also, we should all make sure our jury blacklists are updates!

It's a FEMEN protest at the Vatican on 12/25/2014. A shirtless woman kidnaps Baby Jebus from the manger, right in the middle of a big Nativity ceremony.

On the woman's exposed chest, for those who get the vapors over Certain Words, is written the message "God Is A Woman." I only mention that because some sites censored both the bare chest and the message. This clip is uncensored, at least so far:

get genuinely vile with the support of the group. There is one DU group fast becoming legendary for its incendiary vibes.

But probably couldn't get worse than it is now with the word police out in full force.

Might I suggest an alternative-- every post in, say, this group, include a variation on the phrase "Man, them's some bitchin' tits!"

Every post will then be alerted on and cause general anger and confusion until they just shut up.

(I will take my hide on this one "for the cause.&quot

So no arrogant believer would think we atheists actually see their natural character. And then try to hide our post.

Hiding posts is so effective, you know. Like hiding the facts about how most organized religions work.

Uh Oh, did I say that?
