I hear the same thing about feminism, demanding minimum wage increases, wanting civil rights to apply equally to everyone, and proposing taxes on all the rich pricks who have strip mined this economy so thoroughly that there is nothing left to pay all the people who create the wealth.

Not a single christian was fed to any lions in the Colosseum. It wasn't completed until after the Roman empire had become Christian.

If I recall correctly, and for those interested, the few that were sentenced to Damnatio ad bestias during those periods of suppression were mainly fed to the dogs in the Circus Maximus.

The Colosseum was begun by Vespasian and completed by Titus about 80 AD some three hundred years before the Empire became Christian. You are right about no record of Christians being fed to lions there.

although the slut comment brought back horrible memories of how I once tried to explain the difference between a slut and a whore to two very close friends. You see, the strings from an early indoctrination to righteousness can leave permanent scars and are not easily corrected. The answer is neither, you are neither one bmus, and except for humor among your own friends gawd help anyone who says you are. During my moment of genius both friends were not believers in anything except my own bad behavior, and thus gracious enough to forgive.

I was never indoctrinated so I can't imagine how awful it must be to feel guilty because you're human.

My ex was raised to believe the good girl/bad girl bullshit. Good girls don't like sex, you have to "trick" them into doing it, and bad girls love doing the nasty but you can't respect them and you certainly don't want to marry one. He also grew up believing that he was going to hell.

Sorry, to me that's child abuse.

"I'm sorry, but my ideas of a perfect world don't have me catering to you" is the first place my thoughts go and it gets worse from there, like the present. And should the past become the topic, it's probably too late to run. A pair of custom fit jeebus shoes awaits you, head on down to the water and get yourself baptized. You are now ready to completely forgive your potential spouse's every misdeed and thought, so start asking about those deepest secrets, there's always one more hidden in there somewhere. The good and forgiving soul that you have become will wash those ugly sins away, you will forget all about them, say a prayer, and never mention them again. It's a blessing that works every time. Don't let evil sinners tell you otherwise.

In the real world though, you got through it with your sanity intact. I hope you didn't have to suffer very long.

I am in an area that is Republican enough but there are Democrats here. No atheists that I can find, but you can't have everything. (You can't have anything in TN.)

It's cheap as hell to live down here but it's a cultural wasteland. And the food, bleh.

There are a few islands of blue but they're few and far between. Most of the time it's like living behind enemy lines.

If I could I'd move north so fast it'd make Paula Deens big old head spin round like a deep fried twinkie on a stick.

When I went to visit them last summer to see the new place (they moved from Houston and are now in BFE), I was worried about my bumper stickers. But nothing bad happened, and I was so excited to see a Democratic bumper sticker on a parked car when we went to the big city, Rogersville. They are living in the backwoods area in eastern TN....beautiful, but no way.

Come move here. It is pretty cheap to live here too.

Fri Apr 17, 2015, 07:51 PM
Apr 2015

I mean, i can get behind the ones that are non-confrontational, but when you put a big ol' sign up along I-26 and it says "don't believe in god? you're not alone," I mean, that's just a big fork in the eye of believers. How terribly offensive that sign is. Why are atheists so often Anti-theists? Why can't the billboard be something nice and neutral and not even refer to religion at all?
