Anyone else bothered by this "Apostles' Creed" brew ha ha?
Yes, Trump is a hypocrite. Yes, his religious followers are hypocrites and fools. Yes, he behaved like a spoiled child, dragged unwillingly to a family event.
I'm all for pointing these things out but when it morphs into criticizing him for standing silently while others prayed, I actually find myself, for the first time ever, starting to sympathize with the orange idiot and that turns my stomach. I did see one rational comment: https://www.democraticunderground.com/10142217302#post8

1. not me, and I agree with you
He stood respectfully, while others recited their creed. What's wrong with that? How someone does, or does not, practice religion is certainly none of my business.

2. It would be proper to stand quietly if he didn't claim to be the
greatest Christian ever.

7. Exactly!
but we all know he's a fucking hypocrit just like his worshipers and should be called out.
I'm sorry. You can't eviserate women's rights in the name of JEEEEEEEZUZ and then not praise him.. No, I won't give him a pass.. he wasn't being respectful. He doesn't know the fucking words and can't read and every trump loving Christian should see that. I say, mock him relentlessly. |

13. Those things are not related.
Someone can be the best Christian ever and not participate in reciting the Apostle's Creed. Those things aren't mutually exclusive.

3. I was put in a similar spot 2 weeks ago
I had Thanksgiving dinner with friends. One of the family elders spoke and read a Psalm. I sat and remained silent. I felt very uncomfortable. I didn't complain, but if anyone had given me any grief like they are giving Trump, then I would have.

9. He is using his Evangelical backing
as a sword and shield against his political opponents. That subjects him to criticism.
My old Senior pastor was lifelong friends with Senator Paul Simon. When Simon was in Iowa as a Presidential candidate for the caucus he attended worship at our church. The press made a political big deal about it. My pastor felt awful about it because he always wanted to separate the pulpit from politics. He did not want his friendship with Senator Simon to be construed as a political endorsement from the pulpit. |

12. I wouldn't recite it either, so I don't blame him for not reciting it
but I probably would not go to such an event in the first place, and he's got all this support from evangelicals. I do wonder how the religious asses who think Trump is the second coming of Christ would explain his silence. No doubt it would be hypocritical as hell.

14. A lot of Trump's Evangelical fans
disapprove of reciting things like the Apostle's Creed. The Apostle's Creed isn't in the Bible, and if it ain't in the Bible, it ain't right.
The noise about this on DU is ridiculous. Does anyone really expect Trump's Christian supporters to be upset by this, after they've excused all the things he did that were actually immoral? |

15. ok, not coming from an evangelism background, I didn't know that
so, yeah, it didn't bother me anyway.
It actually bothers me more to see all those political leaders mouthing those empty words. All of them under the supernatural spell. Shameful. |

16. Purely speaking of the legitimacy of religion
they were all either hypocrites or delusional but all for very different reasons. Those who recited it for political reasons have their mode of hypocrisy and those who recited it out of belief are deluding themselves. But Trump not reciting it shows his lying hypocrisy toward his religious base, although I think the real reason he didn't recite it was probably because he couldn't read it.
On the other hand does anyone know if he's Jewish? |
