Prayers can crowd out donations for disaster victims

A new study finds that people who prayed for hurricane victims before donating gave less than they would have otherwise: Because those who prayed believed that prayers improved the victims' well-being, they donated less.

3. So, technically speaking, religion makes you stingy.

If religion actually were a path to helping the poor, how come we have so many poor people? Religion has been around for thousands of years and yet they have never solved the issue of poverty.....I suspect religion has actually made it worse what with their abuse of orphanages, poor houses and homes for unwed mothers.

It's the old idea of religion, the more miserable you are on earth, the more religious you will become, to pray that you will be saved and go to heaven.
