Seriously who likes freezing cold weather?

I spent 37 productive years in Chicago, but after turning age 50, I began to absolutely hate freezing weather in Chicago. Which is why I am now living in Florida. When serious global warming takes place, may be I will move back to northern states.

I had no problem with cold weather when under age 50. In fact I was an avid downhill skier on snow. Not any more!

I hate the heat, the humidity, the bugs and pretty much all there is that most love summer for.

But I do love to eat, so I grudgingly put up with it every year.

6. Yeah hot & humid is bad but

I can go from air-conditioned house to car to restaurant. Or during summers in Florida, I do my outside chores early morning.

Many more people die in extreme cold weather than in hot summer weather.

I had lot more mosquito bites in Chicago than in northern Florida. Because here we have fully screened lanai's. We enjoy outside breeze without any bugs biting.

The winter here that just passed was truly the pits. That said, I dislike sticky, hot humid weather even more.

And here in NE Ohio, it seems like we only get two kinds of weather — hot and cold.

My favorite place for weather is the San Francisco Bay area -- Average year round temps roughly between 45F & 68F.

9. The heat can be oppressive.

I'll take cold temperatures any day to this torching hot 90 degrees plus, for days, even weeks on end. Temperatures do not cool down much at night, either. If it is 95 degrees during the day, it might get down to 82, after the sun goes down.

There is rarely even the faintest breeze, and atmospheric moisture makes it muggy.

I can dress to go outside in the cold. I have a hard time in the summer.

Summer here, seems to last from April to November. I need refrigeration in this weather. I have SAD in reverse, I get depressed in the warm weather. I'm energized by the cooler seasons.

Everyone is different though. I'm glad you were able to make a move to a climate more livable for you.

12. What you said rang a bell in my head

I played lot of golf in Chicago during the short playing season there. And when it was hot & humid there was no breeze! Here in Florida we get many more Breezy days during hot weather. It does make a huge difference.

10. Love the winter and all it has...

Northern Michigan here...66yo.

Hiking, snowshoeing and when younger, hey...maybe again someday, kayaking down some river.
It’s all about the gear, properly outfitted...let the vortex come.

I think like this...we keep meat in the refrigerator to stay fresh...I’m made of meat...I’ll keep longer in the cold climes...I mean live.

14. The winters of '77 and '78 got me... I had to go

When I was a kid I would run around like a nut in the heat.. So when the opportunity arose I came down to SoFla to check it out... I was only gonna stay for a year.. That was in '79 and I'm still here!! It's just the opposite of living up north.. In the winter up there you go from a heated house to a heated car to a heated job and back again. Down here in the summer we go from an air conditioned house to a a/c car to an a/c job... 72º low humidity winters are delish!!
I can always visit the cold if need be. I was an avid skier/snowboarder/ice skater. I can visit.
SoFla has lost it's glitz for me so next year I'm moving to the west coast of central Florida.. Cost of living is less and it's a wee bit cooler...... just a bit.. YMMV.. If you can afford it $$$, being a snow bird is the way to go.. Best of both worlds..

15. Consider Jacksonville area!

We get lots of breeze during hot weather, so it never as oppressing as I recall living in Chicago summers without A/C or playing golf in Chicago in 90 deg weather with zero breeze.

Cost of living is good here too, I bought a 2BR, 2 bath condo in a gated community for $115k.

20. I'm not femiluar with the Jax area..

I've been thru it a few times and have messed around in St Augustine. Great history there and lots of stuff to do. I was looking at Palm Coast between Jax and Daytona also..
I have a deal I could do in Dunedin just north of Clearwater.. Friends place she wants to get rid of. Great little town, lots of character. Oh did I mention SIX brewpubs and nice restaurants.
I'm still thinking about where to go..

16. I dislike bugs I can't identify so it's north for me. I can always add layers of clothes in

the winter, but there is only so much I can shed in the hot heat.

Don't like the ice in the winter but at 76 I don't get out in it much. There is getting to be less and less of the ice anymore anyway.

21. My experience with bugs in NE Florida

I have lived here for 3 years now in a condo. The only bugs I have encountered in 3 years are 3 or 4 palmetto bugs and 2 small gecko's in my condo. The palmetto's come out only at night, and run away as soon as light is turned on. No bed bugs, no mosquitoes, no poisonous bugs or snakes. In my house in IL and in WA states we could not sit outside on the patio without getting mosquito bites. Here every condo patio's are covered with fine mesh screen. I have not had a mosquito bite ever.

OK we do see occasionally garden snakes because we have lots of woods surrounding the condo complex. They run away as fast as they can upon feeling human presence. Ditto with the gators in the 2 large ponds.

I played lot of golf in Chicago area and Seattle-Portland area. Chicago area has lots more biting mosquitoes. I expected reverse because of 7-8 months of rainy weather in western WA state. Surprise was there were far fewer mosquitoes. Florida also has fewer mosquitoes than Illinois.

17. I like cold weather.

I have had it with heat and humidity. Which is why when I relocated after a divorce a decade ago, I decided not to live where I needed a/c in the summer. I now live in Santa Fe, NM.

Also, you can dress for the cold. The only way to dress for the heat is to wear an air conditioned car.

And depending on where in Florida you are, you'll be forced out by sea level rise sooner than you know.

leave here. Plus the beauty of the Coastal ranges.
