Colorado's snowpack is 40 times normal after rare summer solstice dump

Extraordinary figure from the USDA showing Colorado's current snowpack at over 4,000 percent of normal, following this weekend's big snow in the high terrain.

This is true, but a bit misleading. In a normal year, much more of the snowpack has already melted by this date. These eye-popping statistics are more about the shrinking denominator than the size of the numerator
