'A supercell or rotating thunderstorm tracked 80 miles in about 4 hours last night,

likely producing multiple tornadoes from the West Virginia Panhandle across northern Maryland. It was somewhat of a surprise. There was also likely an unexpected tornado in Virginia's Northern Neck. Here's a recap and explanation...

Something's cooking for later today.

Strong to severe storms possible in D.C. area Tuesday afternoon and evening
Isolated damaging winds or hail possible, with an outside chance of a tornado.

The “severe thunderstorm” warning even went off for a bit. Tornado conditions.
