60-70mph wind

Started about twenty minutes ago and hasn't quit yet. And it's still smokey as hell. But it's cooler! In the high 70s.

1. The smoke odor in my area of Ohio shocked me...

... tonight!

Good grief it's so strong, I can't imagine being even closer to the wildfires out West.

2. It's awful.

There are mountains within a few mile of me and I only see them on occasion anymore.

The lights are starting to flicker, not a good sign. This wind is scary, I just moved from a cozy spot in the valley, long story but I hope to sue the real estate assholes, and now I'm in a prefab building the size of a small one bedroom apt, at the top of a very windy hill near the bottom of a very windy pass. It is making my 2 ton vehicle out side wiggle from the gusts. I looked outside ten minutes before and it was calm.

4. Thanks...

I was hoping it was the prelude to a thunderstorm but it's just wind. And you would think that would clear out the smoke, but it doesn't, even the rain doesn't, there's so much of it.

5. Seems like all the smoke particles would...

... act as seeds for even more rain in my area.

It's been very rainy around here lately, which is unusual for this time of the year, but our local bounty of rain has unfortunately been accompanied by extreme drought out West.

6. We have been getting rain at night...

or around sunset for the past couple nights but it's back to triple digits the next day.

As it turns out, the wind is gone now, it rained for three minutes and now it's just still again. 40 minutes of gale force wind really gets your attention.

8. I'm glad it calmed down for you!

The smoke odor has diminished a LOT around here too.

I found this website that provides a current map of smoke pollution, and my area is yellow-colored now instead of red. Seems to be moving SE of here toward North Carolina, while diminishing too.

10. It is one of those things ...

That you can''t do much about. As it turns out, it was the prelude to a small, very small, rain event that lasted less than five minutes. The best part is that it dropped the temp by about 15 degrees. It gets pretty intense around here sometimes and in a new dwelling so I'm still getting used to how this place stands up to the elements. Only been here a couple weeks.

11. I'm in Montana...

They say this is where wind comes from, I'm in a rather windy location, but I just had to move and I ended up near the top of the tallest hill in the immediate area where it's windier than where I was before, and there are not trees up here so this place is exposed to it all. Once the winds get over 50mph, it's definitely time to be on total alert.

13. The wind blew crazy hard here last night too.

I was so hoping it would blow the smoke out of the valley but all it did was swirl it around. It stopped around 10pm, thankfully. Iíll bet it kicked up the fires pretty good, dammit.
