Severe storms, flooding threaten Northeast on Friday after snow, wind plaster Upper Midwest.

Massive storm system unleashed over half a foot of snow and wind gusts over 50 mph in Dakotas, Minnesota.

An intense storm in the Upper Midwest is thrusting a strong cold front through the Northeast that is expected to set off strong to severe thunderstorms and flooding Friday afternoon.

This same storm, which has been called a “November witch” or “November gale,” has also unleashed over half a foot of snow and wind gusts topping 50 mph in the eastern Dakotas and Minnesota.

The sprawling nature of this powerful storm was apparent on a weather satellite view Friday morning, which showcased an unmistakable comma-shaped swirl near its center at the Minnesota-Wisconsin border with a lengthy cold front stretching more than 1,300 miles from Montreal to Tampa.
