1. If it's near the western horizon...
It's probably Venus. If nearer the east, it's Jupiter. If you have binos, you'll be able to tell as you'll see at least a couple moons near it.

2. South/West, and not near the horizon.
Here's the horizon, WEST:

3. It's Venus...
Jupiter is off to the left a ways in the darker part of the sky. You may be able to zoom in on Jupiter to see some moons.

4. Yes, Jupiter.
Checked Stellarium.org ( free astro website) and it shows Jupiter right now to the right of the moon, then further right (west) is Saturn and then even further to the west at the horizon is Venus.

6. Yup, it's Jupiter.
I went outside and scoped it out, Venus was off to the right a bit but now I can see Saturn I think... off to the right.
