Looks like Kristi's Krazy Kampground idea won't be going anywhere soon. House Ag committee chair

Looks like Kristi’s Krazy Kampground idea won’t be going anywhere soon. House Ag committee chair says it’s probably dead.

That was quick. Thanks to an uproar that was rapidly incited by on-line platforms, ours included, the plan to add 176 campsites to the Wildlife Loop Road area at Custer state park is likely a dead duck. KELO-TV reports that they got an e-mail today from Charlie Hoffman (R-Eureka), co-chair of the South Dakota House Agriculture and Natural Resouces Committe saying, “With the amount of negativity from all walks of life in South Dakota, I highly doubt this bill will make it out of committee and on to the Appropriations committee where it will end up if passed.”

I like the “all walks of life” bit. It reflects an amazingly tin-eared approach to the plan that Gov. Kristi Noem touted during her Jan. 11 State of the State speech, when she announced that “we plan to add more campsites at Custer State Park to expand our ability to host people from in and out of state.”

She probably expected some pushback from environmentalists, but the outcry from the private sector must have caught her by surprise. As we and many others noted, the fervently anti-socialist Noem was essentially putting the state into direct competition with area campground owners by planting 176 campsites into the Wildlife Loop (seen above in an image from blackhillsbadlands.com). This is about as socialistic a slap in the face as a private sector entrepreneur can get.

The hue of environmentalists and wildlife loop lovers combined with the cry of affected campground owners to put the kibosh on Kristi’s kampground.
