Challenger unseats governor's pick for GOP chair

PIERRE — Dan Lederman unseated South Dakota Republican Party Chair Pam Roberts Saturday, upsetting a decades long party tradition.

Lederman on a 73-53 vote succeeded in his challenge and became the first candidate for the job in recent memory to win without the governor's endorsement.

The 44 year old from Dakota Dunes previously served as a state lawmaker and Union County party chair. He'll be at the helm during the next two years managing party communications and campaign strategies ahead of the next gubernatorial race and mid-term election

Gov. Dennis Daugaard, U.S. Sens. John Thune and Mike Rounds and Rep. Kristi Noem endorsed Roberts for the role.

Interesting to say the least. The State Legislature over ruled a ethics law that was voted into effect as a
ballot item in the last Election cycle.
