Tokyo Sushi Restaurants hire the best Sushi Chefs, probably very high salary and so their work will be expensive to prepare and serve..You will probably pay a lot.. and just checking...

Sushi at Tsukiji.
8-piece sets: 500 - 700 yen.
Single sushi rolls: ~120 yen.
Large sliced sushi rolls: ~430 yen.

I have watched Bourdain for 15 years and he is a sushi junkie. If he says it is expensive, it is!

The US can easily be 350-600 yen per piece.

Pretty good sushi can be had in Japan for 100-200 yen per piece. The great stuff is priced like nyc though...but the best quality is in Japan of course...though nyc is very respectable as well. The white fish (eg snapper, fluke etc) will be much better in Japan. The blue fish (eg mackerel) will be much better in Japan- in fact, I don’t even like blue fish in the US because that is a much smellier Kind of fish unless super fresh.
