2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumChris Murphy needs our help (Connecticut Senate race)
He was my Representative since 2006. He is a progressive and has great stances on women's rights, gay rights, health care, and the environment. He is also just an all around good guy, very down to earth and met regularly with people in my district. He has much less money then McMahon. He is younger then her, less well known to the rest of the state. She is famous here because of the WWE. She is a multimillionaire. She does not have terrible social policy views (this is CT after all) but she does have terrible economic policy views and would be horrible for Connecticut. And after putting up with Lieberman for all those years, I really want a true liberal Dem as my other Senator. McMahon lost in 2010 to Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat. I really want to make it 2 for 2.

(2,921 posts)You will still get your wish.
Everyone knows who McMahon is, and they will vote accordingly.
The problem is, McMahon is running for WWE, and yet another circus act to her.
So she is not going to win. She wouldn't even know where to go in DC.

(25,415 posts)She is so incredibly fake. I used to go to some WWE shows around 1999/2000. I don't see how pretending the edgier WWE does not exist will work. She has made youtube take a lot of stuff down. It is not like any of us would forget. She is trying really hard to be "family friendly" here.

Just saw it on my local news. I live in CT.

(39,313 posts)Murphy has to survive the wrestler's onslaught of negative ads and accusations (a sweetheart deal on a real estate deal that's just being used to slime). Every point will be hard earned but hey it's New England, they have to wake up.

(5,062 posts)Linda is throwing money into this race like I've never seen. I get tons of robocalls. She sends out large full color brochures and pamphlets that must cost a fortune. Her commercials on the radio and TV air almost non stop.
If she wins I'm gonna be pissed. Chris Murphy is a great guy but has no where near the cash Linda has. It didn't matter in 2010 but it looks like she spending WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more $$$ This time around then she did before.
I hope Clinton or Obama (or both) can make a stop to CT before November.

(4,551 posts)It's going to be very ironic if we win tougher Senate races in other more Republican-leaning states like Virginia, Ohio, Florida etc. and end up losing in Connecticut.
Should the Democrats have chosen a stronger and better-known candidate?

(25,415 posts)So Murphy beat her in the primary.
There aren't many other well known Dems here. Blumenthal beat McMahon last time because he was so well known and well liked. He was Attorney General since I was in 8th grade and I am in my 30's now. So he had a huge advantage of being known for over 20 years that overcame her advantage on money. The DSCC thinks of CT as a traditional blue state and it is. But like Massachusetts, we do vote in the occasional so called moderate Republican.
I know he has run twice already but I would really love to see Ned Lamont run again for something. He is a good guy and would be an asset.

(971 posts)This is a very close race. Murphy is up, but only by a couple of points. McMahon running lies about Murphy's record in the house.
