Tommy Chong is backing Bernie Sanders, but it's not for the reason you think

Clad in a black "Bernie for President" T-shirt, Tommy Chong sat on a stool inside a small studio tucked away behind an aikido dojo in Los Angeles' Chinatown, cleared his throat and squinted at the teleprompter a few feet in front of him.

The comedian and advocate of legalized marijuana, best known for the "Cheech and Chong" films, was there with a small crew of volunteers to cut a political Web video to promote Sen. Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign — and not just because the Vermont senator has called for an end to the federal government's prohibition on marijuana.

Chong starts off the video — to be seen on a laptop near you in the coming weeks — comparing the slate of presidential candidates to marijuana plants ready to be harvested, noting that only Sanders is "mature" enough to picked. Calling Sanders the "commander in Kush," referring to a type of marijuana, Chong ticks off his reasons for support. Then comes the money line.

"Only one candidate this year has said things I truly believe in, like supporting the legalization of ...," he said, pausing for dramatic effect, "a fair and humane immigration policy." Also on the list? Legalization of "a real living wage."

Also recovering from recent surgery due to rectal cancer, he showed off his colostomy bag and said "I call it "The Donald"..."

Gotta LOVE Tommy Chong!

Peace,

Ghost

From now on I am going to equate politics with pot to make politics more meaningful, seriously. The GOP is that old Columbian Gold with the Dems a little more progressive I call them the Northern Lights type. Barry is that new Bubba Dog we got here in the other bay area. Hill is up there with Blue Dream were she is strong but her perspective is a little stale.

Really life makes sense now, thank you Tommy

Did you miss that part?

As for pot, I have been an advocate for legalization, taxation & regulation since I was 16 years old, back in the late 70's. I'll be 53 next month.

If you ever watched, and paid attention to, any Cheech & Chong movies, they had a political message behind them. I think it was "Still Smokin'" where they drove the van made out of pot back from Mexico. It showed the shop where the van was made, where the weed was turned into a fiber resin and molded to make the van. This was a statement about Henry Ford's "Hemp Car" that got the steel industry so wound up that they lobbied to criminalize hemp. Rudolph Diesel also developed his first Diesel engine to run on hemp oil and vegetable oil. The oil and gas corporations didn't like that idea, either. Banding together, the oil and steel interests were able to get commercial hemp classified as a drug and criminalized.
