What does this mean:“People talk about having extraordinary grandchildren, but I actually have one."

?t=1m43s

Comment at the 1:43 mark.

What a weird thing to say. Is this a swipe a Bernie talking about his extraordinary grandkids who must not quite live up to Hillary's idea of extraordinary? I honestly don't know. That's how I hear it. Tell me how I'm wrong, Hillary people.

That's what she says next, but that was edited out of the clip.

This is the rest of the full quote:

And I think too many people are forgetting what are some of the biggest determinants as to what happens to your children and grandchildren. The first being what kind of country we are and whether we’re still providing the opportunities to realize your promise and potential and what kind of world’s going to be out there waiting.

And I feel passionately that just because we had it in the past, doesn’t mean we’re going to keep it in the future. You shouldn’t have to be the granddaughter of a former president to have your American Dream realized. I think every kid should have a chance to live up to her god-given potential.

Please explain to me how that is an attack on Bernie or an attack on non-biological children and grandchildren?

She didn't really answer Mika's question.

Hillary offered the usual boilerplate platitudes that we hear from most mainstream presidential candidates.

And ... she talks about herself a lot ... and the throwaway grandkid line at the end? An attempt at levity or being folksy?

Heck you ask a good question: What does this mean?

And really what the heck is the overarching inspirational theme of her campaign?

Vote for me because I'm a grandma and we need a third Obama term?

That what I heard her say in the clip.

Not good enough on a day when the stock market is down another 500 points or so.

As to the joke, it is a common one where folks poke fun at themselves for their own grandmotherly/grandfatherly pride.

Interestingly, a friend of my mom used to regale their Sunday school class about her talented granddaughter, the singer. This was before she, Norah Jones, busted out. So sometimes it is true.
