How hard would that have been?
Half the people I know have been watching football all day. I doubt ANY will watch the debate. They certainly aren't in frames of mind to discern political positions and make informed decisions.
When your greatest advantage is Name Recognition, you and your 'team' do everything they can to maintain that advantage. If the barely informed electorate can't distinguish O'Malley from Kaisich from Bernie from Santorum, its a win for the status quo.
God forbid, the millions watching football today have the chance to make informed decisions presented in primetime on a day that isn't playoff gameday.

Tomorrow is a National Holiday. Would it have been that hard to schedule it tomorrow?
I'm not asking to defy the laws of physics. Just want my sports-minded friends who have 'tailgated' much of the day to watch the debates whilst sober - if at all.

(23,867 posts)Oh, wait, so there's going to be an hour of stuff before the debate? I didn't know that. It said 8p, and I just figured 8p. OK, thanks. I'm a fool.

(1,061 posts)You will be watching.
Millions of others HAVE watched Trump, etc. many times already during this election cycle. They won't be watching tonight, and they don't yet have much of an idea who is running nor for what each candidate stands. That is my point, and I dare say it is a desired result to dampen name recognition.

(1,061 posts)And with one simple step back for perspective, I ask, why didn't she schedule it for tomorrow?
If they WANTED the debate to reach as many voters as possible, why not schedule for tomorrow. Seems a no-brainer.
Then I remember - they don't want to reach voters - not during the primary anyway.
