You need proof that debates got similar viewership in both parties in 2008, yet we're getting half the Republican viewers this time. You need proof that it's a shitty schedule when everyone with the smallest bit of a clue is aware of and talking about the awful schedule.

Blind partisanship is not a virtue. Nor is it an effective means of making a reasonable discussion.

the time they air. There's really no way to measure viewership of later watchers.

These days, people who timeshift viewing are very numerous. Lots of DVRs were set to record the debate. Others, like you, watched it in another way. The ratings don't reflect that.

However, YouTube says that 1,587,937 people have viewed the full debate recording on YouTube.

Democratic Debate Delivers 10.2 Million Viewers to NBC

By Mark Joyella on Jan. 18, 2016 - 1:56 PM53 Comments

NBCDemDebate
Nielsen ratings data released by NBC show Sunday night’s Democratic presidential debate delivered 10.2 million viewers–the second-largest audience for Democratic debates this season, behind CNN’s debate in October, which had an audience of 15.3 million (CNN’s debate aired on a Tuesday night, compared to NBC’s holiday weekend timeslot).

Another 1.2 million viewers streamed the event live via YouTube, NBCNews.com, and various apps.

The two-hour debate moderated by Lester Holt and Andrea Mitchell drew an additional 552,000 total viewers and 173,000 A25-54 viewers as it re-aired on MSNBC from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. ET.

Here’s the 2016 debate ranker, which includes Nielsen viewership data, along with livestreaming information provided by the networks.

That's for the full debate. They also have a highlight video. I didn't look at the count on that.

Add that YouTube viewer count to the total.

Also, almost every Democrat who watched the debates will actually turn out and vote in the primaries or caucuses. They're reaching an excellent percentage of people who will actually vote.

That 1.3M is YouTube viewers watching it after-the-fact. All of the debates are available online after-the-fact. Also, that 1.3M includes repeat viewers, not unique viewers.

If you want to discuss people who watched it live, you'll need to drop those. If you want to talk about people who ever saw the debates, you'll need to add similar numbers to the previous debate.
