This is what neo-liberal corporate governance has brought to my home town

The photo above is from a web site I was involved in helping to get off the ground last year with the civic hacking group codefordayton.org.

The site enables people to find abandoned properties that are eligible to be purchased for around $2,000 in the City of Dayton.

Go to: http://www.lotlinker.com and zoom in to see the massive scale of devastation that has been unleashed upon us by the new model of extractive economics and casino style speculation. The Clintonian NAFTA trade agreement also helped destroy the vertebrae of our economy as well.

This is one of the reasons why I am voting for and giving every ounce of energy I can to Bernie Sanders.

We took three different open source government databases and ran the necessary queries on them to determine if they were eligible for the REAP (Real Estate Acquisition Program), and geocode the addresses based on those results. It allows people to find and reclaim these properties for a very low price with back property taxes erased. And the process is now much more simple.

It was a very cumbersome process before, having to go back and fourth between online searches and a giant downloadable .csv file to determine if homes were eligible. Now you can do it easily just by zooming in to find properties, which there are no shortage of.

I am a big supporter of merging the power of government data with open source code to save money and make government work better like we accomplished with this project.

Liberals, even neo-liberals, are the problem?! What about the decades long conservative effort to outsource overseas?! What about the decades long conservative effort to destroy the unions?! What about Ohio's current and recent conservative governors that have destroyed Ohio's economy?! What about conservative obstruction in Congress that have thwarted every effort by President Obama(and will thwart Bernie and Clinton) to help hardworking blue collars Americans?!

No, they are not the problem, it's liberals! Like liberals have been running the show without conservative obstruction at every level.

Give me a fucking break!

BTW, how do you define neo-liberals? Let me guess: conservatives. Predictable and Pathetic.

What those policies have brought us is poverty and pain. Childhood Poverty is 22%. Higher than it was after the great recession in 2008. All the while corporate profits are at record highs.

It's damn shameful that we ignore what those policies have done but if it's was acknowledged the Neos would have to admit they're economic policies have failed and that will never happen.

As if we needed any more proof than 2008 though. It should be a case study for the hell neo-policies cause. Oh, and Capitalism should at least get a screw you as well. The entire system is broken and people wanting to preserve it need a reality check.

Once upon a time. Dayton was the invention capital of America. The city with the most new invention patents, and a very important manufacturing hub.

We have fallen a long, long way. But it's no fault of ours. Our leaders and system sold us out, and continue to.

But we are scrappers and fighters and we keep on keeping on.

Also the largest Airshow in the World (or it was).

I've never been to Dayton but I'd imagine it's like many cities that were decimated by NAFTA and CAFTA. I hate to think what the TPP will bring. It's still too early to know but if the others are any indication it won't be good.

has dropped from a peak of 262,332 in the 1960, to around 145,000 today.

Although this year, Dayton gained population for the first time in a long time, thanks in no small part to new immigrants. The city declared itself an immigrant friendly city a few years back.

Your story is mine. I was about 50 when I started to pay some attention to politics. And even then, my view was simplistic - not really seeing much but the facade put up by the two parties. And it's only been the past decade (I'm 71 now) that I've immersed myself in the murky smoke 'n mirrors non-substance of it all.

I'm NOT giving myself a pass, but I will say, as a young man - fresh from military service and with a fledgling family an all - what a bunch of stuffed shirts in DC were doing seemed FAR removed from my grocery and rent tab.

NAFTA slowed the export of jobs to mexico, mexico's 1964 maquiladora factory system was a much better deal for united states companies, maquiladora factory system was inacted in 1964 in retaliation for united states ending the Bracero Program.

United Statee Industrial output grew faster in 6 years after NAFTA then it did over prevuous 20 years, 13 million jobs created
