During Sunday nights Democratic debate, the Republican National Committee made the unusual move of sending no fewer than four real-time e-mails to reporters defending the self-described democratic socialist from attacks by Hillary Clinton or echoing his message against her. Based on their content, one could be forgiven for thinking the RNC communiques came from the Sanders campaign.
One RNC e-mail, which was titled Clintons Misleading Health Care Attack, defended the Vermont senator from what it described as the Clinton campaigns inaccurate remarks on Sanders single-payer plan, and quoted news articles that featured rebuttals of her arguments. A second message countered Clintons attacks on Sanders over gun control by pointing out her gun-friendly statements in the past. Two other e-mails sought to bolster Sanders case that Clinton is too close to Wall Street and the drug industry.
Sean Spicer, the chief strategist and spokesman for the RNC, spent much of the evening tweeting Sanders-friendly commentary on the debate, often with the pro-Sanders hashtag #FeelTheBern. At one point, Spicer gently chided Sanders for what he deemed a poor response to a question and added, come on we are trying to help u.

Oh, and if a Republican wants to vote for Bernie, welcome to the land of sanity.

(1,260 posts)They aren't going to vote for Bernie in the general election! They want Bernie to the primary because they feel they can more easily defeat a self described socialist. It's called political strategy - help your "perceived" weakest opponent.
I put the word perceived in quotes, but they're perception may actually be wrong. Hell any Democrat could beat Trump and Cruz.

(19,348 posts)looking at Bernie, Trump, and Kasich? Those "independents" are right wingers who are looking to screw up the Democratic Primary.

(13,877 posts)the reality of most of the clued in experts. Certainly not Trump. And some Republicans can think, if not see the writing on the wall. Really. I grew up with a bunch of them.
This is not just a partisan struggle. Most on this board have spoken to that. There are issues that transcend party affiliation. Best get used to it and learn to think independently.

(1,260 posts)Every poll shows Bernie and Clinton trouncing Trump. Which clued-in experts are you referring to that deny this?
Some Repukes can think, but this article refers to the RNC. They people are thinking about only one thing, defeating the Democrats in the general election. You are focusing on issues that affect the American people at large. The RNC operatives are only concerned about their selfish desires to win politically, and the fancy perks that come to them individually.
BTW, I do think independently. That's why I'm not on the Clinton or Bernie bandwagon, like you. You are quick to defend or praise everything Bernie says, which by definition means that you are not an independent thinker. I have praise and concerns about all three remaining candidates. When you stop letting one candidate think for you, then you can criticize the independence of others.

Jesus.

(1,260 posts)They are in for Bernie in the primary, not the general election. This may backfire.
Hell, I want Trump to win the GOP primary. Any Dem can defeat him.

(7,143 posts)Of course the RNC would like to run against Sanders. Our seminal poster seems to think, rather, that the RNC wants to vote for Sanders.
Thus the Jesus.

(23,664 posts)You want us to believe that the republicans somehow want to run against Bernie Sanders instead of Hillary Clinton because she's just so awesome that she'd just crush her opponent.
I believe you seriously underestimate the level of loathing the American public has for this woman.

Every Rethug I talk to wants to run against Bernie. They believe that Bernie will lose the general election when he openly states that he is a socialist in the first general election debate. They are banking on the ignorance of the American people, especially those older Americans that grew up believing that socialism and communism are the same thing.
Bernie has made an effort to properly educate the American people, but it's an uphill climb. He may just do it. Wouldn't that be a kick in the ass for the RNC

The RNC may be wrong about Bernie though.

(1,260 posts)I recognize them because I use their same tactics when I pump up Trump on conservative sites. Any Dem can beat Trump, but pumping up Bernie may be a gross RNC miscalculation.
Once Bernie polls better against the GOP field than Clinton, these DU operatives will switch to Clinton. The overwhelming majority of DU Bernie supporters are not RNC operatives though, but a handful are freaking OBVIOUS.
How DU jurors and admins can't detect them is beyond me!

(1,260 posts)According to the article, the RNC wants to get rid of Clinton. I believe the RNC loses big either way with Cruz or Trump. Wouldn't that be sweet!

Claire McStupid was on tv. I believe she told me a Republican told her they can't wait for Bernie. Oh yeah Claire. I'm sure they'd share the beans to you so you'd go out and tell everyone.

(12,689 posts)Sanders supporters are under the impression that even Republicans and conservatives are jumping on Sanders' bandwagon, because of "common sense". They don't get that Rove and these operatives have a specific motivation behind their actions.
Anyone who thinks that Karl Rove is supporting Bernie Sanders needs to wake up.

The Hillary Clinton campaign on Tuesday said that recent attacks from conservatives show that Republicans are hoping Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will win the Democratic nomination because they believe he would be easier to beat in the general election.
In a Tuesday evening statement, the Clinton campaign's communications director, Jennifer Palmieri, mentioned an ad from the Rove-aligned super PAC American Crossroads, which accused Clinton of being in Wall Street's pocket. Palmieri said the ad suggests that Republicans want to face Sanders in the general election.
"While Senator Sanders tries to make a case on electability based on meaningless polls, Republicans and their super PACs have made clear the candidate theyre actually afraid to face. The Sanders argument falls apart when the GOP spokesman is trying to help him and the Republicans run ads trying to stop Hillary Clinton in the primary," she said in the statement.
Clearly Karl Rove wants the weaker candidate to be the nominee
