Vice President Joe Biden disparaged socialism while addressing the World Economic Forum in Switzerland on Wednesday, as his own political party finds itself with a self-described "democratic socialist" leading in some state polls.
"We need -- not just in my country, but in other countries -- a more progressive tax code. Not confiscatory policy, not socialism, a tax code," Biden said. "Everybody pays proportionally a fair share. This is not meant to penalize everybody."

(42,641 posts)Where does Biden get the idea that socialism=confiscatory taxes?
The top marginal tax rate during the Eisenhower Presidency was around 90%. Did that make Eisenhower a Socialist?

(19,348 posts)I would say though, I support a 70% bracket on large scale short term capital gains.
The hedge funds/gamblers do not contribute to society and should pay alot in taxes.
Those funds can go for education and roads.

(24,780 posts)Sanders supporters have incredibly vivid imaginations that border on paranoia if they think there is some sinister motive for Biden's statement.
It's getting really weird now. This is bothersome weird.

(32,342 posts)I don't know anyone who advocates confiscation. That said, I would definitely call this a "shots fired" statement that indicates how he's leaning in the primary.
