Jack Hatch: Why I support Hillary

Iowa Daily Democrat:

Jack Hatch, Iowa State Senator (Ret) and 2014 Democratic candidate for Governor

My daughters, Caslon and Regan, need to know who fought for their opportunities, who led the fight against gender discrimination, and who, as First Lady, went to China to proclaim that women in all nations need civil and human rights protection. They still need to have a role model. Hillary Clinton is their role model, and mine as well.

That’s not all; she understands politics, business, and international cooperation but mostly, she understands the struggles of everyday Americans. She is the most competent candidate of either party. You may not like her husband, you may not like the Clinton dynasty (doesn’t seem to have mattered with the Adamses, Roosevelts or Bushes), you may not agree with her on every issue, but there is no debate that she is ready to lead this country on Day 1.

She has been exceptional on progressive issues this election. She did not hesitate to attack Donald Trump in his fascist statement to prevent all Syrians from entering the USA or monitoring all religious Masques. She did not hesitate to support Climate Change as the highest long term problem facing America and the planet. She did not hesitate to announce increased governmental oversight on all financial institutions. She did not hesitate to advocate raising taxes on the wealthiest and provide relief to the middle class. She did not hesitate in supporting President Obama and the Affordable Care Act. She stands tall on the most important issues facing America. She commands respect.

Our other candidates are good too. As Democrats we are proud of all of them. They are not campaigning on fear but on hope; they are not claiming facts that can’t be verified; and they are not dismissing any Americans. Our candidates see an America that allows all to marry whom they love, work where they choose, and live where they want. That is patriotism and Hillary Clinton can guarantee those freedoms better than anyone; and that’s why I support her.
