"Hillary Clinton is one of the most ethical and most lied-about political leaders in America"

Hillary Clinton is one of the most ethical and most lied-about political leaders in America

By Peter Daou

Karl Rove, the Koch brothers, and billionaire conservative moneymen like Paul Singer have spent inordinate sums to paint a malignant picture of Hillary, using sophisticated propaganda techniques to render her toxic to the American electorate. Sadly, many on the left imbibe and regurgitate these fabricated narratives, spewing falsehoods and filth at Hillary with gleeful abandon. They are joined by mainstream media operatives with personal vendettas like Maureen Dowd and the Morning Joe crew, whose venomous words reveal more about their own failings than about Hillary.

But the fact is this: no one has ever produced an iota of evidence that Hillary has behaved improperly because of a campaign contribution. No one has produced a scintilla of proof that there is a quid pro quo when it comes to her speaking fees. From Whitewater to Benghazi to her emails, nobody can point to a single instance of corruption or purposeful wrongdoing on Hillary Clinton’s part.

None. Zero. Ever.

The most they have are votes they disagree with. And even there, the false frames are tossed around with no regard for facts . . .

I agree with most of Bernie Sanders’ platform – which is very similar to Hillary’s – but contrary to the assertions of his supporters, Bernie is not some outsider untouched by the messy complexities of politics. He is a seasoned politician who has spent a quarter century in Congress; he sided with the NRA when it was politically expedient; his top adviser is a consummate DC insider who has worked for candidates who are anathema to the left; he has hired pollsters to hone his message after saying he didn’t need pollsters; and he has shown a willingness to take swipes at the likes of Planned Parenthood and HRC when it serves his political goals.

My point is this: the notion that somehow Bernie is pure good and Hillary is pure evil is hogwash. They are both politicians who make judgments and adopt positions, some of which we agree with, others we don’t.

How to explain away collecting $675,000 for giving three speeches to Goldman Sachs
By Bob Johnson
Friday Jan 22, 2016 · 2:47 PM EST

As has been well documented, Hillary and Bill Clinton have become wealthy by giving speeches to deep pocket corporate interests over the years, especially to the Wall Street behemoths.

Yesterday, The New York Times reported on how Hillary’s paid speech-making has given Bernie Sanders an effective line of attack on the campaign trail, highlighting her close ties to an industry she claims she will regulate with a heavy hand. All of this in a year when voters are expressing anger at our lopsided economy:
Hillary Clinton’s Paid Speeches to Wall Street Animate Her Opponents
...For a fee of $275,000, she had agreed to appear before the clients of GoldenTree Asset Management, the capstone of a lucrative speechmaking sprint through Wall Street that earned her more than $2 million in less than seven months
.

The Clintons have, indeed, made themselves very, very wealthy on the high-end rubber chicken circuit:
Together, Mrs. Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have earned in excess of $125 million in speech income since leaving the White House in 2001, one-fifth of it in the last two years.

Goldman Sachs alone paid Mrs. Clinton $675,000 for three speeches in three different states, a fact Mr. Sanders has highlighted repeatedly.

How effective have Sanders observations on Clinton’s speaking fees been on the campaign trail?
In Iowa on Wednesday, Mr. Sanders went even further, seeming to mock her sizable speaking fees as borderline bribes from a powerful industry. “You got to be really, really, really good to get $250,000 for a speech,” he said.
The attacks have become one of Mr. Sanders’s biggest applause lines in Iowa, where the median household earns about $52,229 a year.

Even Clinton allies admit the big numbers she has collected present a problem...

If you like, I will - at your request - go to the objective academic literature on ethics involving conflict of interest. I will be able to demonstrate that the "norm" established by society is that this situation presents a clear conflict of interest.
That is "ethics", not law.

Would that information be helpful to you in understanding the perception created in the eyes of most members of society?

http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2015/12/07/elizabeth-warren-shows-support-for-hillary-clintons-wall-street-plan/?_r=0

On Monday, Ms. Warren stopped short of endorsing Mrs. Clinton, but her message of support for the candidate’s Wall Street plan could do much to ease concerns that Mrs. Clinton’s deep donor base of financial executives would make her reluctant to install tough regulations.

Obama or most other Dems are. She takes $$$ from them because it's legal (thanks to the SCOTUS)!

With all that $$ sloshing around in Politics, it's extremely difficult to remain competitive without accepting it. Yea, I know Bernie doesn't, and I really admire that. I just HOPE he can maintain his competitive position throughout the General. That worries me, and I set up a monthly contribution to him. My little donation can't possibly keep his campaign going unless there are THOUSANDS of people who are and continue to do so to.

Meanwhile Clinton continues those high $$$ fundraisers raking in the dough and maxing them out in one false swoop. Then they can send all the money they want to her PAC. *wink, wink, nudge*

Hillary Clinton ally David Brock is acquiring a media outlet, sources involved in the negotiation and sale of the site tell The Huffington Post.

True Blue Media, a newly formed company incorporated by Brock, has acquired progressive news website Blue Nation Review. BNR's previous owner, MOKO Social Media Limited, will retain a 20 percent stake in the new entity while Brock will hold the remaining 80 percent equity balance. The sale was finalized Monday night.

Peter Daou, digital media strategist for Clinton's 2008 campaign, will serve as the new CEO of True Blue Media.

I knew Hillary lied in 2008 and before. Fresh start, handily in the lead, I didn't think she'd have folks get dirty like this this time. She would have learned from her past behavior.

What's really offensive to me is they're doing it to maybe the most honest politician of my lifetime.

Blue Nation Review was MOKO's progressive-oriented political commentary product, but was sold to Media Matters for America founder David Brock on November 25, 2015.[13][14]

Elizabeth Warren Shows Support for Hillary Clinton’s Wall Street Plan

http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2015/12/07/elizabeth-warren-shows-support-for-hillary-clintons-wall-street-plan/?_r=0

On Monday, Ms. Warren stopped short of endorsing Mrs. Clinton, but her message of support for the candidate’s Wall Street plan could do much to ease concerns that Mrs. Clinton’s deep donor base of financial executives would make her reluctant to install tough regulations.
