2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWell Bernie Sanders is 74 but Hillary Clinton wants more war....
Our nation and treasure have all been spent,
Our citizens can't afford much food nor rent.
Our nations children are racked with debt,
While our mortgage and lending were the banks best bet.
No one is fooled, and no one still cares,
That the best man for prez is 74 with white hairs.
Nice try CNN/DNC/DWS/HRC
Just donated again to Bernie Sanders

(23,156 posts)Elizabeth I, inherited a bankrupt country. There was not much money to pay for anything, least of all a war. For years she held fast against all the men around her who kept on pushing her to go to war with various countries. She is famously quoted as saying many times, "No war, my lords, no war!"
She finally went to war against Spain in 1588. And won. But she didn't drain her country of precious resources in war for a great many years leading up to that date, unlike her predecessors.
Our country is in the process of being bankrupt largely because of the wars our leaders insist on fighting. I hope that Bernie Sanders not only gets elected, but holds out against wars for his entire time in office.

(23,156 posts)Spain was the main political and military power in Europe, meaning the world, and went about conquering locals, enslaving them, claiming the land for their own and so on.
But the upper classes paid no taxes. That was for the little people, and inequality became so great that Spain more or less collapsed. They'd committed themselves to an economic system that wasn't viable, and put the entire burden of everything on the poor. Sound familiar?
