http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/rob-lowe-bernie-sanders_us_56a7d59ae4b0b87beec64b3c?ir=Entertainment§ion=us_entertainment&utm_hp_ref=entertainmentIt looks like Rob Lowe is getting back into politics.
The one-time Republican senator and former Deputy White House Communications Director (all on TV, of course) got back to debating the important issues while watching the Democratic debate on Monday night.
Lowe took issue with Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders' verbal flair and his stance on taxes:

He would say: "modulate, senator." Rob Lowe added,

Dude. I've been happily paying taxes since I was 15 years old. How 'bout you? https://twitter.com/luke_juice69/status/691808579557392384
The tweets sparked a debate among Rob's followers, who either praised him for his remarks or chided him for his stance on taxes.
Either way, it's clear that Lowe isn't feelin' the Bern, but that doesn't necessarily make him a staunch Republican. According to a 2014 interview with The New York Times, it doesn't seem like Lowe favors either party (or politics).
"I find [political parties] both highly overrated," Lowe told the Times. "Each day another state makes it OK for my 18-year-old -- any 18-year-old -- to go and buy pot like hes buying a Pepsi-Cola, and so lets face it: In the United States, recreational drug use is sort of acceptable. Belonging to one party is acceptable. But my days of just ticking the party box are long over. I judge the candidates for who they are."
The actor added: "My thing is personal freedoms, freedoms for the individual to love whom they want, do with what they want. In fact, I want the government out of almost everything."
After the series of tweets, at least we know Lowe definitely wants the government away from his money.

(1,349 posts)It reads, "On TV, of course." Can't remember if he was ever a senator or not. I think he ran for congress on WW and lost. Not sure if he was a senator on some other show or movie. He was a jesus freak on Contact.

(45,251 posts)Lowe sounds like a Libertarian, no?
A self-indulgent multi-millionaire doesn't think he should pay his fair share of taxes for the population as a whole, including him and the fans who made him so very rich, one movie ticket at a time?
He was a baby about the show from the start. I'm pretty sure the show was supposed to be centered around him. Martin Sheen was supposed to have a small role. Sheen comes on and hits it out of the park and the show is no longer centered around Lowe. Instead of being a big part of a great ensemble, he takes his ball and goes home.

(1,349 posts)Actor Kurt Russell has some strong opinions on gun control, and he let them fly in a confrontational interview recently.
In what was presumably a chat to promote his new movie, Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight," Russell got into it with Jeffrey Wells of Hollywood Elsewhere earlier this month over off-screen concerns. (Listen below.)
The tense exchange began trending on Facebook over the weekend, with Fox News saying Saturday that Russell "put gun control activists on blast."
Wells asks the actor about the "Quentin cult" of violence and the talk quickly segues into the national debate over the regulation of firearms.
"If you think gun control is going to change the terrorists point of view, I think youre, like, out of your mind," Russell said. "I think its absolutely insane. The problem we're having right now is that we don't have the concepts of how to turn it around and say, 'You know, you may think you've got me worried about what you're gonna do, dude. You're about to find out what I'm gonna do and that's gonna worry you a lot more.'"
When Wells references the notion that people on no-fly lists can legally purchase guns, Russell responds: "They can also make a bomb pretty easily. So what? They can also get knives and stab you. What are you gonna do about that? They can also get cars and run you over with them. What are you gonna do about that?"
"What are you gonna do, outlaw everything?" Russell says. "That isn't the answer."
