Thousands pack Bernie Sanders campaign events in Minnesota

The Vermont senator drew crowds of more than 6,000 at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center Arena in the afternoon, while more than 4,500 were diverted to overflow viewing on top of the 10,000 admitted to the St. Paul RiverCentre during the nightcap of his visit.

With a large part of the crowd in St. Paul looking like this voting season would be their first, Student Farhiya Ali of St. Paul’s Hamline University warmed up thousands who waited in line as early as five hours before the event with her story of why she would be voting for Sanders in the March 1 caucus.

A recently-naturalized Somali-American, spoke on common Sanders campaign refrains of racial and gender equality and a rigged economy that benefits only the ultra-rich.

“Bernie is not afraid to say what many Americans today think, but many politicians are scared to say,” she said.

Someone noted that Bernie must be feeling pretty good about Iowa to be taking time to visit Minnesota right before the primary. It's wonderful to see that he stills draws the mega crowds of enthusiastic fans. Now that he's finally gotten the attention of the media, it will be interesting to see if his latest rallies get the coverage they deserve.

Remember last summer when the pundits said the Bernie phenomenon would be over by the Fall?

Thanks for this thread, Uncle Joe.

Polar Bears freeze their ass off and 20,500 people show up for Bernie rallies.

I do believe the conventional "wisdom" that Bernie supporters aren't likely to show up at the polls will be stood on its head.

Thank you, senz.

But that's a tautology, because if things weren't so wrong, Bernie wouldn't be running. So we shouldn't be surprised if it's not covered. Still, I hope it will be in the news.

At least it's in the news on DU, thanks to "reporters" like you!

I hate to rain on your parade, but despite the big crowds, Minnesota is not friendly Bernie territory; according to a very recent Minnesota poll:

Star Tribune/Mason-Dixon 1/18-1/20 Sample 307 MoE 5.7% Clinton 59 Sanders25 O'Mally 1
Clinton +34

It's the same old story that has been told time and time again during this campaign - the passion of Bernie supporters doesn't necessarily translate into votes.

And you would think that Bernie would be popular there, it's supposed to be a very liberal state. "A study put together by The Hill concludes that Minnesota is the second-most liberal state in the country, only behind Washington" Minnesota 2nd-Most Liberal State, Study Says

After Iowa and New Hampshire, if Bernie can't win in Minnesota, where can he win? Maybe Vermont?

reflecting such a large deficit as in your poll.

The race is fluid, there is nothing static about it, as Iowa and national polls have come to reflect.

What's Hillary's largest rally to date?

Was it this one in New York City?

You think that thousands of people mean... like, thousands of people attended. But in actuality, it's very deceiving. Because... because it really isn't thousands of people. Because... because... well, it's... you see, it's complicated. Complicated and deceiving. Yeah. Like I said.

Honestly, you know there's something wrong with their candidate when the Hillary supporters sound either silly... or like Republicans.
