DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz defends debate schedule

Last edited Wed Jan 27, 2016, 07:14 PM - Edit history (1)

This article is from January the 21st just before the MSNBC sponsored New Hampshire unsanctioned debate became an issue.

Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz Thursday tried to deflect questions concerning how she has structured the Democratic Presidential primary debates. Bernie Sanders’ supporters complain that she tilted the playing field in favor of Hillary Clinton by holding down the number of televised events.

(snip)

Sanders’ supporters say Wasserman Schultz has tried to minimize Sanders’ exposure by scheduling four debates among presidential candidates while Republicans have held six. When pressed by a second reporter to respond to the criticism she referred to her first response. When pressed further she suggested that Sanders’ supporters are paranoid.

(snip)

“It’s hard to understand why there are so few debates and why they’re scheduled on days that almost guarantee low viewership,” said Brian Lupiani, coordinator of Big Bend for Bernie. “The Republican race has practically had a monopoly on publicity, while the Democratic response has been MIA.”

PolitiFact, which fact checks politicians’ statements, has rated as false Wasserman Schultz's statements that the debate schedule works to “maximize the opportunity for voters to see our candidates.”

PolitiFact called the statement disingenuous. It checked the ratings and calculated that the Democratic debates attracted a cumulative viewership of 42.5 million, while a cumulative 103.7 million viewers watched the GOP debates.

I'm convinced in regards to that debate Schultz is just biding her time and will sanction it to help Hillary.

Hillary only wants one more sanctioned debate Bernie would be happy with five.

Hillary and depending on how MSNBC treats this story only want this debate because.

1. Hillary's campaign is stalling.

2. Bernie is leading by double digits in New Hampshire (where the debate would be held) and according to Nate Silver has a 69% chance of winning that state, this is the most aggressive that I've seen Hillary coming out for a debate that's not sanctioned by the DNC.

Hillary has been rather quiet on the issue until now.

"What I’ve said to my campaign is that I would look forward to another debate. I am, you know, anxious, if we can get something set up, to be able to be there. And so let’s try to make it happen," the front-runner for the party nod said during an excerpt of an interview on MSNBC's "Hardball" that will air Wednesday night.

I've also seen threads here from Hillary supporters supporting Debbie Schultz and attacking Bernie supporters for being against her, let us see if that continues.

Hillary still does not really want to debate - she just wants to make it look as if she does.
