Congressional Democrats Align With Hillary Clinton Over Bernie Sanders

(snip)

Many Democrats think nominating Mrs. Clinton would be better for races further down the ballot. Heading into the first presidential contests in Iowa next week and New Hampshire a week later, Mr. Sanders’s momentum is triggering some concerns among Mrs. Clinton’s supporters on Capitol Hill.

Democrats in Congress like Mr. Sanders, a senator from Vermont, and many are reluctant to criticize a candidate who has been igniting enthusiasm, particularly among younger voters. But in recent days, many have been highlighting themes in line with Mrs. Clinton’s brand of pragmatic politics as opposed to Mr. Sanders’s call for a populist revolution.

Almost three-fourths of the Democratic caucuses in each chamber of Congress is now backing the former senator and secretary of state, according to data compiled by Roll Call. Her supporters say she is both more likely to win the White House and would do more to boost Democrats in tight House and Senate races.

Wednesday at a Democratic retreat in Baltimore, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi flatly rejected Mr. Sanders’s proposal for universal health care, saying that “single payer is not going to happen” and lining up with Mrs. Clinton’s assessment that such a plan wasn’t politically viable. “We’re not running on any platform of raising taxes,” Mrs. Pelosi said on Wednesday.

Yet Bernie now IS a factor, and a Yooge factor, one that can no longer be ignored,
so some establishment Dems are doubling down and circling the wagons.

I think I've seen this movie before in 2007/8, and know how it ends.

If they supported Bernie they'd feel the weight of the Clintons.

When they come around as they start following the People, they will be widely accepted by us.

So for now they are playing it safe.

HRC has no coat tails and will galvanize the same people on the right who have dealt the DNC three consecutive losses in congressional races, while alienating an important percentage of the liberal base.

The republicans campaigned against Pelosi, and Pelosi rolled over and played dead for them.

H has no tails, and neither does Pelosi.

Bernie has a big party boat all are welcome to come sail on.

it will get uglier. Telling Wall Street to "cut it out" unlikey to be effective. Even if we win, we then loose massively in 2018 and 2020. With a loss in 2020, we are gerrymandered into irrelevance.

...including Russ Feingold looks forward to Sanders at thr top of the ticket.

I guess it's easy to discount them as "the establishment", but since the Sanders folks can't be bothered to find their own House and Senate candidates...
